Got a pretty sweet deal today. If you have or get a Wells Fargo credit card (almost all have no annual fee) you just have to use it to pay for your phone and it gives you free insurance. Covers broken glass, theft, etc. They also have "secured" cards if you have bad credit. Great way to catch the deal and restore your credit.

The last word to that sentence stopped me. In order for this program to pay, I'll have to file a claim with my homeowner's policy. Go ask any homeowner's agent what will happen if you make a couple of claims on $600 phones each year. Even if the claim is denied, it will remain on your policy record.

Excellent point! Your homeowners is already too HIGH!! Can you imagine it going an additional 15-20% and that's every year? Its cheaper to go to Square Trade or similar. Stay away from homeowners. Last year I searched over a dozen insurers and found one where I put cars, house, & liab. The moved saved me $1100.00

I don't know about other homeowner's insurance, but StateFarm covers items stolen or lost outside of the home as well. For example, if the kid has his/her laptop stolen while in school or a 4-year college. At least that's what's listed in the printed policy. Of course, I'll never file a claim for anything under $1000 because that's just begging for a premium increase next year. It only lists these exclusions: items stolen from vehicles, confiscated by government agencies, terrorist action, nuclear events, or items used for illegal activities.
