Why does my Nexus 6p randomly lock itself while I'm using it?

Nexus 6p randomly locks itself while im using it.

Whether I'm playing games or watching YouTube videos, my phone just shuts itself off randomly and I have to unlock using my password. It's happened probably 15 times today so far.

(Thinking it might be a security setting or my flip-cover phone case messing up somehow)

Welcome to Android Central! It could be the flipcover. Is it an official case, or a 3rd party one? If it's a 3rd party one and you habitually fold the cover in back of the phone, the embedded magnet in the cover (that triggers the smartcover sensor when it's closed) might be too strong, thus activating the sensor from behind. Does the phone ever shut off like that if you have the cover open but not folded behind?
