Verizon restricts access to "TravelPass" international travel plan for Nexus 6p

Verizon has an international travel plan called "TravelPass". The plan is extremely convenient, and highly cost effective for occasional trips to Canada or Mexico. Unfortunately, they appear to have disabled the plan for unlocked phones such as my Nexus 6p. The explanation I got from a pleasant and helpful Verizon representative is that they activated my phone as a "development device" and that development devices are excluded from this plan. Has anyone else run into this problem? Any idea about how to pressure Verizon to fix this?

If you have access to a branded Verizon phone with a nano sim slot just move your SIM to that phone. Once the website detects that as your new phone you can add the TravelPass feature and then move your SIM back. The feature will stick around. Worked for me at least.
