Re: Need a charger and a cable for Nexus 6P

There are several threads about this in the Nexus 6P section of the forum, I suggest you browse those.
Main forum section: Nexus 6P - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com
Charging threads:

I also suggest you check out Benson Leung's G+ posts on USB-C chargers/cables. He has a Google Docs document posted with his testing results.

You aren't going to get "quick charge" with the 6P, it does not support Qualcomm's charging spec for that. Instead, it uses the new USB Power Delivery spec to determine charge speed, and you SHOULD only get "Charging Rapidly" on the lock screen when using a proper USB-C charger and cable.

Re: Need a charger and a cable for Nexus 6P

I disagree with Benson about cables that advertise higher charging currents, I would classify it as a feature not a bug. Technically he's right, the USB 3.1 spec clearly states that USB-A to USB-C cable should advertise 1.5A of charging current, not 3. However any decent charger is current limited so it won't deliver more current than it is rated for. I have a number of USB-A car chargers and they all have at least one port that's rated for 2.4A which they describe as a tablet port. I've measured the current using the Ampere app and indeed the 2.4A ports deliver about 2.4A when used with a non-compliant USB-A to USB-C cable. The 1.5A ports deliver 1.5A with the same cable. So my suggestion is that if your car charger isn't rated for 2.4A or better then you should buy one that is and use it with a non-compliant cable.
