Doze had been amazing for me until recently I noticed I could barely last a day with a charge. I looked at battery optimization and saw "not optimized" so I changed it to "all apps" thinking I'd solved the problem. No. If I do anything and go back it reverts back to "not optimized."

I cleared cache and that did nothing. I started in safe mode and it behaved the same way, it would not enable or optimize apps. it's easy to say "do a factory reset" but I'm really trying to avoid that and having to setup the phone again, everything else is working fine.

I've done plenty of research the last couple days and there are reports of doze not working but I've not found anything with my problem, I can't even enable doze. Or, am I looking at this incorrectly? Do the drop downs simply show me what is and is not optimized? The default view used to show me "all apps" so maybe that's changed and the default view is "not optimized". If that's the case then I guess I'm with the crowd with 6.0.1 where doze won't kick in.

I'm running 6.0.1 stock on Verizon.

On a fresh boot from a factory reset there are 2 applications that cannot be optimized: DMservice and Google play services. Everything else defaults to optimized unless you change the setting manually. Toggling the drop down doesn't do anything. Doze isn't a setting you can enable or disable. As much as people don't like to factory reset sometimes it's the solution to their problem

I think you are trying to change the dropdown from "Not optimized" to All apps.
that doesn't mean you are changing the doze mode. you are changing selections to show all apps with doze mode optimized and apps which are not.

doze is working for you, what makes you think its not working?

I have the same, my default view is for the not optimized apps which are DMservice and Google play services, when I choose to show ALL APPS, they are all showing as "Optimizing battery use"

I always have Bluetooth and NFC turned off and my battery lat=sts 2 days easily and yesterday I reached me 3rd day morning with 8% battery left. I do talk a lot on the phone as well and keep checking Twitter, Facebook, and browsing the web.

You more than likely have a rogue app that isn't allowing your phone to go to sleep (doze). You need to monitor the amount of sleep you phone is in.

I'd say lets forget about the app battery optimizations for now and focus on an app that you may have installed recently that is keeping your phone awake. When this started happening was there any apps that you had just installed prior to that?

Check your app usage and awake times through the battery settings page or with an app like better battery stats. (Avoid gsam cause I, along with others have had battery drainage issues from that app)

See what's at the top of the list as far as app usage goes.

    Start with that.

If clearing cache hasn't solved your battery drain issues, then it most likely means there's a rogue app.

You can also boot into safe mode and let the phone sit for a few hours and see if it utilizes doze by looking at the battery graph and percentage drops. If there is little to no battery usage within a few hours in safe mode, then there's probably a third party app causing drainage issues.

Screenshots of your battery graphs and usage always help.

Just remember that doze is an integrated feature of the software with no on/off switch. If there's a rogue app, then doze won't be utilized properly.

I wanted to give it some time and the battery performance seems to have improved back to its original form.Doze: Won't allow me optimize all apps, always changes back to "not optimized"-screenshot_20151126-075057.png

Attached is a battery graph from when I first got the phone, notice the nearly flat durations when doze was working. I didn't take a shot when I posted this thread but those flat areas stopped happening. After I cleared the cache (again) and have waited a couple days, I can clearly see where doze kicks in again.

That could have been all you needed then, was to clear your cache again. If it doesn't, then you'd have to dig deeper. But hopefully it stays like that for you!

There's nothing wrong with Doze, there is something wrong with some android developers apps. This isn't a marshmallow fault it's an android app developer fault. Not really anything you can do about that other than switching to another OS. For what it's worth, this is extremely uncommon and can easily be remedied by being more vigilant about your app choices. Some devs make subpar apps no matter what OS you use, the difference here is that since android allows more flexibility than others who lock everything down you do need to be more choosy about who's apps you install.

I don't think he's stating a problem with doze, just that people call out doze too often for being the "culprit" for bad battery life when that's not the issue.

But you are right. And if you think about it, that's not a good thing. I doubt it is uncommon too. You see quite a bit about bad battery life in forums. And there's so many other casual users that aren't on the forums, and don't know how to remedy bad battery life because of a rogue app.

Part of that awake time could be due to poor cell signal too. It will definitely affect battery life even if it WAS sleeping right.
