I'm really starting to love this phone because of the apparent great battery life, build etc. after only two days. The only downside is that some of my APPS are not working on the latest android M build. Widget locker, Pandora, FB, and some others to name a few. These APPS worked flawlessly on Lollipop and my old HTC one M8. I cleaned the cache and I'll see how it goes today. Anyone else? I'm pretty sure that the bugs will work themselves out when the developers update their apps.

It could be that those apps aren't updated to work on Marshmallow yet, since not too many phones are on Marshmallow yet.

As above,do the apps need to be updated to work on Marshmallow...usually when you re-install them on a new phone they would update automatically?

Yeah that's right..you wil need to update these apps in order to run these apps comfortably on 6.0. Marshmallow.

Either you are on an outdated SW where everything works or on the latest SW where not everything works. And some of these APPS I have paid $ for. Anyways, this is the fastest and lag free phone ever for me.

I'm not on outdated software - I update my software almost daily. I have the latest Marshmallow with the February security update.

I have ran what was the latest FB about a month ago with no issues (uninstalled in favor of Metal) and Pandora (v6.9.2) is and has always run fine for me. Almost everything worked for me when I got my phone several months ago and the few apps that did have a problem have been updated and are fine. I do still have a few apps that are pre-Marshmallow and they seem fine too.

But - it's definitely possible that you could have some apps that are having troubles. Widget Locker was last updated in 2013 and it's a lock screen replacement so it makes sense it might have issues with the introduction of fingerprint unlock and probably some other changes.

So, what I am saying is that there may be something screwy with your particular collection of apps. Did you try a factory reset after getting the latest Marshmallow update? I hate suggesting that because it nukes everything. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps? I had to do that with "Silence Premium" for it to start working right.

    Hope it works out!

Thanks for the tips. I have received at least 3 updates since yesterday after getting the phone. Yeah I might try to uninstall then install my APPS that are buggy, and if that doesn't do it, I might just do a factory reset. I love this phone more than any phone that I have ever bought since the Original Moto Droid.

Five months with my new Nexus device, and I still have apps that don't work with Marshmallow. The dev acknowledges the issue but probably won't do anything anytime soon. Why? Well, I check on the update progress for my old Samsung device (T-Mobile) and five months later the update is still in "Manufacturer development".

So all else being equal it's a double edged sword. Upgrade too early and some apps won't work correctly with the new software. Stick with the compatible handset and it may take several months before your get the latest OS update.

There's a lot more to it. I don't think the edges of the sword are equal.

Upgrade too early and some apps won't work correctly with the new software. There were some bumps to start with but that's expected. I think that most apps that are under active development have ironed out their Marshmallow bugs in the past 5 months. Are you guys talking about apps that have ceased development? I haven't run into any that completely fail on Marshmallow at this point (but I haven't tried them all). However, I know don't expect apps that modify core system behaviors (like Widget Locker) to work after the core system has changed so much since 2013 (Widget Locker's last update).

Stick with the compatible handset and it may take several months before you get the latest OS update. If you choose this route, you are putting those one or two apps over and above better security, major OS improvements (e.g. doze) and even fixes to broken OS features (e.g. LTE radio fix, do not disturb misbehavior, etc.). In the case of any phone vs. Neuxs, you're also accepting the fact that your phone will only get a couple of updates before it's abandoned and, as you said, those updates will take a long time to reach you.

In my opinion, keeping the compatible handset is on the much sharper edge of the sword.

I don't disagree. It's for each user to prioritize their needs. Like many decisions it involves a trade off that the individual must judge for oneself. I'll go for the software upgrade every time, but that's me. I suppose I should have been more explicit in my prior comments. It's interesting that even big companies, like my large national bank, took months to update their app to be compatible. And my large national cable provider still has yet to do so. I suspect that with low initial adoption rates for new OS builds, there aren't enough users to make app updates a priority (for some companies).

Pandora and FB works just perfectly fine for me. I used to use those apps constantly but lately, I just use the web browser for FB. Less of a battery hog.

After the latest FB update, their widget disappeared? And that's under my lollipop and marshmallow phones that I have. So sometimes it's the developers that drop the ball. Like some people mentioned, widget locker is pretty much a dead APP (no updates for years already).

Facebook works on my 6P, it has never crashed or acted weird. I don't use Pandora so can't say. One thing I don't do when I get a new phone is let it restore apps from my prior phone. I find this always has issues. I do a fresh install and reinstall all the apps I actually want.
