Doing some painting today, took the case off the phone to clean some paint off it, was looking at the phone and noticed a slight pucker right near the volume control, damn!

On the good news side, they're sending me a replacement phone and were pretty good about it. I got the phone right from Google, new one should be here this week.

Anyone have a link that will explain how to transfer all my apps etc to the new phone when it gets here?
I have a glass screen protector on the phone that really is not in the best shape, do you think I should leave it on the phone when i send it back or should I remove it ya think?

Wow, guess maybe I spoke to soon, posted the above while on hold.
So the tech support guy is just finishing up my order and the call drops off, this is after 35 minutes on the call where "James" asked me 3 different times for my call back number. Guess what, no call back.

So I call them back, the 2nd rep tells me he can see the order is almost done and I should be receiving an email within an hour from James.
Then the new guy Kent tells me it will not be covered, it's 'customer damage'! We go back and forth for another 35 minutes, I sent him the above pics, he tells me they'll let me know tomorrow. I'm thinkin my mistake is calling them back, we'll see what they ay but I'm not going to be happy if they say I'm outa luck.

Weird thing is I've only seen bent phones that were in cases. Maybe cases aren't good for the 6P.

The thing is, sometimes removing a case can cause the phone to bend if the case is stubborn and the person more so. I used to take my case off at least once a day and just enjoy the view of the naked phone, but now I don't do it as much because I know what a pain it can be to take the case off carefully.

I hope they replace the phone, Fisherguy. Did you have Nexus Protect?

Likely that most of this damage we are seeing is from taking off the case. Not sure if I'd call it a defect or just poor product design?

That's why I just leave my phone naked. I don't bother with cases or screen protectors, too much of a hassle. However I have phone OCD, so I always know where it is, and I don't usually drop my phones.

I'd think taking the case off would cause the phone to bend the other way from trying to pull the case off the back..?

Dealing with the people at Google was so frustrating last night, pretty happy after talking to the first guy, completely pissed off after the second guy! We'll see what Google says when they get back to me but I'm not holding my breath.

I was a little concerned about the stress on the glass with it being a little bent so this morning I applied a little pressure and basically straightened it out leaving just a bit of a mark in the trim. It didn't take a lotta pressure to do this BTW.

This is the first 'big screen' phone I've ever had, the S4 was a lot more solid build IMO but I guess it's to be expected that with a phone this big and this thin you need to be a little more careful with it.

I still like the phone in general, the camera is great, the fingerprint thing has it's issues though. If you set it up with nice clean hands, then try to use it when your hands are a little dirty etc it's probly not gonna work, maybe I need to start wearing gloves when I work on my truck!

    <<EDIT>>
No I didn't get the Nexus Protect when I bought it.

Every case is different, of course, but on the 2 cases I've owned for this phone, I have to apply pressure on the side to take it off. This is especially true with my new Live Case.

OK, heard back from Google, surprisingly they're going to replace my phone after all.

What's the best way for transferring my apps, settings, pictures, docs etc seemlessly from the old phone to the new one? I don't want to spend a couple days fiddling with it.
    Thanks

This will only work if he has both phones at the same time. If they require him to ship the original phone before sending a replacement, he can't use this option.

They're sending the new one out, (I paid the extra for next day delivery cuz we have a fishing trip coming up soon) and I send the old one back after that.
So that 'setup nearby device' will install all the apps, transfer everything over so the new phone is exactly like the new phone? That would be cool but I'll probly still have to do some tinkering, right?

It should do a lot. The apps will install from Google Play. You'll probably have to set up your home screen to look the same. Passwords may sync, but don't count on it. Contacts should all come over fine. You'll have to tinker. It's now 100% automatic, but it's a great start.

It will actually have Google Play re-download all the programs you're currently using so you'll have to redo logins, specific settings etc. Not a perfect solution but it saves lots of time. For me, I use Nova Launcher so I saved a backup of my current phone layout. Then after all the programs were downloaded I restored the Nova backup and everything was exactly like it was on my original phone. Automation is a wonderful thing...

I agree that the bend is not from taking the case off. It would definitely be in the other direction. Maybe it could be from putting the case on, but I still doubt it because you'd usually just be squeezing it around the edges and corners, not pressing on the middle of the screen. I would guess that it happened in your pockets, either from leaning on something or just the phone being pressed against your body. That's been known to happen with bigger phones.

I've never actually heard of bending a phone while taking a case off. Is that a thing? Must me a more stout case than I use.

That's exactly how it would bend if it's a case that is removed by prying it off from the front. This is how the bumper I have installed is removed. I'm always careful to start removing it up at a corner to avoid this issue.

New one came today, think they'd mind if I kept the charger and USB cord?

Will Google transferring everything using Nova and the 'setup nearby device' thing, I hate setting up new phones....

I'm not 100% sure. But Setup nearby phone should transfer all your Google stuff and apps. Nova will setup your desktop. You'll probably still have to manually sign into all your other accounts and apps and change your settings.

Lol im pretty sure if you didnt include EVERY SINGLE THING it cane with, except for manual, they may bill you for the whole phone, so 500 dollars. Hopefully you didnt keep the charger, because they specifically say to include everything

'Setup nearby device" didn't work the first time, I reset the new one, tried again, I think most apps came over from my Google account but I had to setup my email accounts, Facebook, Instagram etc etc, isn't thisall sposed to be done automatically?
    The Nova restore went better

"Setup Nearby Device" worked fine for me as far as apps go. Regarding email accounts I have everything funneled through my Gmail account so wouldn't know about that. I did have to set up my Exchange account for work manually though.
