I have it on my Project Fi 6P and it really makes sense for that service as you don't get huge amounts of data. I'm not sure how much of an advantage it would be if you get lots of data with your phone plan unless you need to save data by switching to wifi...

Does anyone know where there are networks that wifi assistant will connect to? I got it on my phone and I want to test it out.

BTW, it appears that Wifi Assistant is Off by default, so you need to enable it if you want it.

Then you don't have it yet. Networking only shows up when WIFI assistant is on your device.

The main setting for this is in Settings - Google - Networking ... the entry is the VPN menu is simply the entry for Google's VPN service that this accesses.

If you don't see it under the Google settings, it's probably just a function of Google's staged rollout policy and your number hasn't come up yet.

So do you have to enable both? Once in the Networking menu and once in the VPN menu?

This link will show you where you should be able to get WiFi assistant to connect in your area. This is a map that was made by Project Fi users, they'd add new locations as they were found -- so it does not have all the locations, and some locations that previously worked may not work any longer.

Edit: Looks like there is an issue with the map I linked, as the old information is not there. It looks like someone, in updating it, accidentally "erased" the old entries -- hopefully they aren't actually gone but just hidden by a filter. I'll leave the link just in case someone figures out how to fix it -- and of course, new locations can still be added.

No... Just in the Google settings. The other is basically just showing that there is a VPN registered with the system. Google connectivity services handles turning it on and off.

You certainly need to have WiFi on to get the assistant to work; doubt that you need it turned on to get the update.
