    Problem:
Vertical black band on the left side of the screen, gradually widening to the right. Started since a month ago, with a thin black stripe. The vertical black stripe started before Nougat update. No change after the 7.0 update. The widening of the band continues after the update.

The touchscreen function is not affected on the black band. The screenshot image shows that screenshot-taking is not affected.

    Nexus 6p
    - bought in March 2016.
    - Android 7.0.

    Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like the screen is failing. Either that or a loose connection.

Any idea if the warranty will cover failing screens?

It's worth a call. Did you get it from google? If not Huawei might be an option but customer service isn't the best from them.

Tried Safe Mode - the vertical black band remained unchanged.

Almost certainly hardware. I hope your exchange or repair goes smoothly!
