OnePlus 5T Fingerprint sensor doesn't turn on the device?

(got oneplus5t 128gb/currently on Android 9).
When i was on Android 8 i was able to unlock my phone when it was on sleep mode only by touching the fingerprint sensor.
After updating to android 9 i cant do it anymore,if i want to unlock my phone i need to first press the power button and then use my finger instead of my pin.
Any idea why?

I'm on Android 8.
Have hesitated to upgrade.
Now I have another reason.
