Gcam apk - portrait mode for non-faces?

Hey All,

As far as I know, a tweaked version of Gcam tailored for the OnePlus 7 Pro is still in the works, but I have a general question about it.

What is it about the modded G cam APK on non Google phones that makes it so that only faces are properly detected in a portrait mode? Pets and other random objects are not working properly like to do on the pixel phone.

I would think that is software related, so I was just curious on why it's that way right now.

You cannot do portrait modes on non-pixel phones (2/3) using Gcam on objects / animals. Only humans is supported. It is because the Pixel 2/3 have special API keys/dual PDAF values that is needed to measure depth when it can't detect a human face.
All of the ports for GCam use the front camera Portrait mode for the rear camera. And on the Pixel 2 and 3, Portrait mode works only on human faces. I hope when Pixel 4 port is made, it brings in this feature, because pixel 4 has telephoto lens in rear camera. Lets hope for best.
