I am considering picking up a OP7P and being that it is close to stock, there is one thing on the Pixel 3XL that I extremely despised which am hoping the OP7P doesn't have.

When you double tap the screen, does it take you to the ambient display or does it take you right to the lock screen?

On the Pixel, even if you turn off AOD, every time you double tapped, it brought you right to the ambient display, then you have to double tap AGAIN to get to the lock screen. What moron at Google thought of that!? I shouldn't have to double tap TWICE, which is Quad tapping, just to get to the lock screen to see notifications. And no, I don't want to just hit the power button like some people suggested when I still had my Pixel.

Currently I have the S10+, and Samsung does it the normal way, like it has been done for years. When you double tap, it takes you directly to the lock screen.

Sorry for the rant, but that was one of the reasons I was happy to get rid of my Pixel.

If you have Ambient Display enabled, it will take you to the Ambient Display screen which you can unlock your phone from with your fingerprint or face. No need to double tap again to go to the lockscreen to unlock.

    Thanks for replying.

I guess what I am basically asking is can you have Double tap to Wake enabled without using the Ambient Display? You can't on the Pixel being as the Double tap settings are under Ambient display.

On the S10+ for example, I have AOD and Ambient display turned off, but Double Tap to wake is toggled in a different section. When my phone is on my desk for example, I like to double tap to immediately see the lock screen so I can read my notifications without unlocking the the phone. You can't do that on the Pixel, but it works fine on the Samsung.

AFAIK, it's doesn't have the feature to go straight to the lock screen by tapping on the screen. That is reserved for the Ambient Display. If you want to go straight to the lock screen and view the details of the notifications, you have to press the power button.

    Ok thanks for the info.

That's what I was afraid of. That pretty much kills the OP7P for me then. It may sounds like something silly, but it's just something that really bothered me when I had the Pixel.

When I double tap it goes to the lock screen. when I pick up the phone the ambient display shows. I can use my fingerprint on either screen. Sounds like exactly what you want.

How do you get it to display the lock screen when double tapping? I've tried it but it doesn't wake the phone to the lock screen. I've disabled double tapping to see Ambient Display.

Ok I got an answer over at XDA.

Under Ambient display, turn off Tap to wake, and then go under Gestures and turn on Double Tap to Wake.

That sounds exactly the way i want it.
Fr0gburp3r and Putte Kindh like this.

    You're welcome.

Ironic though, I haven't even decided if I want to buy it yet or not, and I'm already solving problems with it. hehe
