Please someone help...........All media lost while connecting to Laptop via USB

I connected my oneplus one to Laptop via usb. I selected option of PTP ( Photo transfer protocol) i got a message that driver not recognised or some error sort of pop up.
Now i dont find all my pics , videos in Cellphone nor in Laptop.
I lost my 38 GB data.
Please help me . what should i do..

Welcome to Android Central! Use MTP instead when trying to transfer files.

So when you use a file manager app to look in the /DCIM/Camera directory, nothing shows up?
