While I was creating a way to port Zefei's CM7 to the Optimus V with working MMS, I guess I accidentally created a way to port a different Gingerbread Rom as well. The MMS works on this port! Thanks to Raul720 for figuring this out.

Boot into your recovery and do a Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Next flash these in the following order:
1. [ROM][WIP] Unofficial CM7 (Gingerbread)
Direct link to rom:
07/15/2011
2. gapps
3. Sprint-to-OV_ath3nos_signed.zip (updated 7/15/2011)
4. ath3nos_bloat_remover.zip Optional (updated 7/15/2011)
Removes: some ring tones, support for non-English languages, bootanimation, some themes, and other stuff that most people don't use.
This only increases space in the system partition.

Post bugs here if you run into any.

Known Issues:
  • No voice search button for now. I remapped it to the power button.
  • 160+ character SMS auto split doesn't work like it is supposed to. See below for a work around.
TIPS, TRICKS, AND FIXES:
1) Voicemail - Go to Settings/Call Settings/Voicemail Settings and change "*86" to YOUR phone number. You can now hold 1 to check voicemail in the dialer.
2) Proximity Sensor - Go to Settings/Call Settings and check "Always use proximity" to fix proximity sensor during calls.
3) Electron Beam - Open Settings/CyanogenMod Settings/Display and Check both Screen Animation boxes.
4) Split SMS - Open Messaging, Push Menu button, Select Settings, Check "SMS split" and "Split counter" to auto-split messages over 160 characters.
5) Battery Percentage - Go to Settings/CyanogenMod Settings/Interface/Status bar tweaks, you can check "Battery Percentage" to enable battery percentage in the status bar.
6) Front Key Wake - Flash this from recovery if you want all the front keys to wake the phone: Optimus_V_Key_Swap_signed.zip
7) Wrong Timezone - Settings > Date and time > Uncheck automatic. Then select the proper timezone. Finally, recheck automatic, and it should be fixed. (Thanks Eollie!)

Curious to know how you got the MMS working

/system/etc/apns-conf.xml

Code:
 <apn carrier="Virgin Mobile" mcc="310" mnc="00" apn="0" port="" mmsproxy="205.239.233.136" mmsport="81" mmsc="http://mmsc.vmobl.com:8088/mms?" type="mms" />
</apns>

/system/app/MMS.apk from AOSP rom

I'm not sure why it didn't work with Zefie's CM7 or why it works with this rom, but it does.

this rom is great. On aosp you cant apply a certain ringtone for someone in paticular on this rom you can. And dont get me wrong i apreciate anyone who builds roms. Im just stating the facts that i do think this rom is more current and a little smoother. Thanks for the uploads mmars and anyone who had anything to do with this rom.

I've been running this for most of today and liking it so far. Battery like seems decent - I'm down about 10% in the last 2 hours with light to moderate usage

You think the bumblebee kernel with dalvik to cache would work?

I'm not sure why it didn't work with Zefie's CM7 or why it works with this rom, but it does.

Most likely because this is forked off of the same trees as aospCMod.

If you haven't discovered this already, check out the really cool system ringtones included in the rom.

No luck installing it here. It hangs on the boot animation.

Btw, does the wired handset works during phone calls with this ROM?

Did you flash gapps? I made the mistake if forgetting that a few times with aosp. It'll freeze everytime if you don't.

No, if you look on the first page of the Bumblebee thread he states that his kernel will not work on aosp which this rom is based on. He is still working on a kernel for gingerbread, but hasn't got it quite right yet. When it is, it will be released.

Re: [ROM-ish] OV Port of ath3nos's Unofficial CM7 (Gingerbread)

I noticed AOSP's kernel is snappier than the one used with the ROM, but thats just my experience so far. Other than that it seems to be running just fine! :D.
