Hello,

I am also unable to boot my Optimus V. Regular boot = LG logo follow by blank screen. Also unable to boot into recovery and emergency mode (vol down + home + power and vol down + back + power). Only way to get into emergency mode is to hold vol down + back and plug in usb. However, the emergency screen stays on forever (download is in progress. do not disconnect cable. and the circular icon doesn't move). I'm guessing that is not normal. It does flashes from time to time but it sounded like it is just being disconnected and reconnected again.

Also plugging USB from off state, it goes from LG logo to blank screen. The silver background and battery screen doesn't show up.

Method 1 result (tried in various type/phonemode) - Windows 7:

How old is your phone?

Have you tried the method here?http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...black-screen-custom-recovery-custom-roms.html

The newer Optimus V's have the screen from the Optimus S so the driver software in most of the recoveries will not work. There is however some roms and a recovery that will work linked in that thread.

I actually used and adjusted method 2, to my needs and got my phone to work, but there is a catch. It so far seems that the method I used will only work on a rooted device and you have flashed Xionia Clockwork (CWMA v1.2518.6) to the device. The following is what happened with my optimus v.

The launcher unexpectedly appeared with error stating needing to force close. This kept looping and would not go away. Turned the phone off and entered into clockworkmod recovery. Due to not having a backup or recovery rom, I downloaded the stock optimus v rom and mounted the sd card attached by usb. Then wiped dalvik, cache, factory/data reset, and wiped cache. INstalled .zip and nothing... Since I could still mount the sd card for usb I just formatted the sd card (on my computer) and placed the Xionia Clockwork (CWMA v1.2518.6) on the usb and then installed that via zip options. (This needs to be done even though it may put your phone into a fast boot loop.)

After this, you need to reboot your phone and it will run through a applying update sequence (again) and then get stuck on the virgin mobile screen. Take your battery out, and put it back in. Then start your phone via EMERGENCY mode (volume down, return button, and power button until lg logo appears and release.) Then follow these steps:

1. Download the Optimus V Stock Firmware Cab: VM670ZV4_13.S4_13.P61007.cab
2. Rename the cab file from VM670ZV4_13.S4_13.P61007.cab to VM670ZV4_13.cab
3. Download the KP500 updater: http://forum.androidcentral.com/atta...-en-v0.4.2.zip
4. Extract it into your C:\ directory such that KP500-Utils-EN.exe is located: C:\KP500-Utils-EN-0.4.2\KP500-Utils-EN.exe
5. Place the Firmware cab file into the same directory
6. Run KP500-Utils-EN.exe
7. Press the letter J on your keyboard and press enter
8. Type VM670 for Phone Model and press enter
9. Type VM670ZV4_13.cab and press enter
10. Type VM670ZV4_13 for the Version and press enter
11. The updater will open up and probably complain that the phone is not connected. Just click restart and the program will continue.

(note that during this whole time your computer will keep telling you its found new hardware and is installing it. Ignore that and continue, do not exit it though.)

12. An error will pop up, click ok and lg s/w update window will open.
13. Another error will appear, click ok.
14. Since most of the user interface is in question mark form, when a window appears with two options to click, the three question marks mean yes, click the three question marks button.
15. Click ok on the rest of the "errors" that pop up (until the progress bar reaches 100%.
16. After reaching 100%, immediately close the lg updater windows and remove your phones battery.
17. Replace your battery and restart your phone in RECOVERY mode (volume down key, home button, power button until lg logo appears and immediately release.)
18. If you didn't skip installing Xionia Clockwork (CWMA v1.2518.6) as previously mentioned, this recovery mode will open (will be blue.)
19. Once more remount your sd card via usb and place the stock (or custom rom) of your choice on the sd card via your computer.
20. Wipe the dalvik cache, the data cache, and the factory data reset and then use the install .zip option to install your rom by choosing it from your sd card.

This is what I did on my optimus v (using windows xp) since no other methods worked and I had nothing to lose with the phone. I'm running the stock rom I found and nothing appears to be wrong with it at this time.

I want to try this, but I can't find a good link to the VM firmware, and the LG recovery tool will not connect to my phone in Emergency mode. Emergency is the only boot option I have.. For some reason I am stuck in a pre-boot loop. The phone will not even charge, the LG logo comes on, and that is it.

But the method described by SirBarmy could work for me. I do have a custom recovery installed... The only thing I am missing is the firmware.

The link to VM670ZV4_13.S4_13.P61007.cab is dead - I googled for 2 hours now and I cannot find this file. Anyone have a working link? T_T

The answer is yes I did get this method to work on xp if you see my first post. As far as the firmware and such, I used the one's that sammyz originally posted when he started this thread. My method was a bit twisted but I only had XP at the time.

This thread is old and outdated, I fixed these e-mode methods to work, now can a mod please lock up this thread and archive it with links of methods that do work? TIA

Edit: I PM'd cole2kb about it, he hasn't done anything...or he hasn't seen his PM.
