found this on another web site, haven't tried it myself yet....
or terminal emulator:

dmesg | grep hitachi
dmesg | grep novatek
if you get output with the novatek line, you have an old (first-gen) OV.
if you get output with the hitachi line, you have a new (2nd-gen) OV.

I just tried this out and figured out I have the first generation V, thanks.

Thanks for this. Totally forgot what version of android my phone came with. This helped immensely. Turns out I have the novatek one even though I got in in December last year.

Same here. I have still have to send my old OV back. I couldn't get a important text message out though without a sd reader. I wanted to keep it forever.....

What exactly are you trying to do...? If your trying to save a text you should just back up the thread with SMS akup and restore and then email yourself the backup.XML.

But maybe I'm not understanding.
