I don't think many people are very comfortable with messing around with the radio. Just my guess

I guess. However the instructions are almost fool proof, so as long as people followed them in their format.

Yep mainly just need to make sure you save the .nvs file and I like to keep a .qcn file from qpst. When all is said and done you also have just about the best unbrick method there is via emode lgpnst.

Yes, you instructed me to do that when I done mine. Great advice, actually it should be implemented. It's definitely a must have for either firmware.

I just don't see the point, unless your bricked.

The devs here already have a ton of ROMs for us to play with. Pretty much all the cm7 roms run perfect.

Unless there are benefits besides being able to run a few more ROMs?

I do know this. I actually accidentally deleted the stock ROM while in recovery. Instead of going back through the opti-sfx.exe, I downloaded the ZVJ update.zip. Flashed xionia recovery, factory reset, apply update. Zip and install jcase_rootme.zip.
Got my stock rooted GB back without the computer. Yay:)

Well, just like thewraith420, I get better signal and everything seems to run faster.

Actually I still run the same ov roms, but I get better signal/service with the newer radio firmware

Really? Is it that noticeable of difference in performance?

Well I don't want to say It'll help everyone because I'm sure it's a ymmv situation but myself and AndrewNelson both experienced noticeably better signal strength on LS670ZVJ

What's the difference between this and changing the PRL?
Which is easier?
Will everything still work on MiRaGe (MMS, 3G, SMS)?

Changing the prl is much easier and everything should work as long as it's a sprint prl.

Changing firmware isn't easy but is better. The ZVJ radio/firmware update is true sprint.
The VM670(2.2.1/2.2.2 froyo) is a subversion of the LS670.
Take for example, when you update the ov (zv9) you still are running froyo. Updating the LS670 to ZVJ gets you to gingerbread and the updated sprint radio. All this at stock value.

Okay, a few more questions.
Can I run ZVJ on a custom V ROM (particularly MiRaGe)?
If I get to ZVJ, would I have to change the PRL, too?

All ov roms will still work with zvj but you have to use the zvd-zvj patch. So one extra file to flash after gapps

Just knowing that I would be at a stock gingerbread was enough to sell me in trying this. It's just like I bought a new phone.

Awesome, thanks! Also, what PRL are you on?

Just to be sure if your going to try I suggest you save a qcn file from qpst and a nvs file as per this guide. Between the two you basically have your all your radio settings backed up.
