I bought a virgin mobile phone today, the LG Optimus V and its rooted, so when i went to activate my number to it i couldnt. I dont know much about this stuff, but i can tinkle a little bit. Really need some help on how to go about this or what to do. So far ive read some and I dont know much about these things but All i really know is its running the latest version of Harmona and has CyanogenMod settings, Ive read into some things and followed what they said to do and went in to the reboot system and Backed it up and then wiped cache partition, dalvik cache and data/factory reset.
then went to mounts and storage section and format boot, cache, data, and system. Then went to the Harmonia ROM zip and ziped it and then went and tryed to activate it and it still didnt work. Im so frustraited at this point.& when i try to hook it to the computer it doesnt recognize.

You need to be on a Froyo-based ROM to activate. Do you have the LG drivers installed on your computer?

Never had to activate after root, but I imagine you could even activate online. Worth a shot, although I'm sure someone else has had your troubles and will be posting soon. AC is an excellent community

since the phone is already rooted and has a custom recovery installed, update the phone to zv9 stock with no root. http://www.virginmobileusa.com/resources/update.zip

download this file via computer and move it to the top directory of your sdcard or download it to the top directory of your phones sdcard, reboot phone into recovery mode by powering off the phone, hold volume down button and the power button down until you see the recovery menu, select install zip, pick the zv9 update zip file. once it finishes and reboots to phone home screen, youll be completely stock from factory and can activate the phone with your account. be aware that the activate app on virgin mobile phones in general usually fails with an error code. if you get that trying to activate, call virgin mobile and theyll help you manually activate. this method will most likely be easier than trying to locate and install a custom froyo rom to activate. you can reroot the phone using other methods here in this forum after activation if you wish.

Thanks! I have been wondering how to do this all night. A simple thing like downgrading to stock did the thing. The activation app popped on the homescreen and my heart gave a jump. I still have not tried it yet, but Im confident it will work!

Couple of caveat: The update.zip will wipe out your root/CWM. If you dont want to deal with it, this may NOT for you.
    1) Depends on what you have in your custom ROM before the update, chances are if it is NOT froyo, it will NOT boot. Press vol up+home+power up to get back into android recovery. wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, re-install update.zip, reboot, it will then work. Some of the steps may not be necessary, but that is how I get back, after a boot loop of android logo

    2) Now redo, root, install cwm, and make a stock image backup. Dont know why, my backup had sum5 not match....

Thanks Curtis again, save my ****!

Note: All custom Froyo ROMs have the activate app. It is much easier to flash a custom ROM than to flash the ZV9 update and lose root. Just remember not to use the factory reset option in the menu. It will brick the phone. I have my stock ROM backed up, but a custom Froyo ROM backed up is just as good.
