So would an older version of G+ work better than the latest update?
If so how could I get my hands on it?
And how far back would I have to go in order to use it w/o it FC?

I don't see why if it works fine on GB, ICS & JB its having problems on KK.

PS. It is one out of the 2 social networks I use the most (doing it on a browser is either too slow or too small/big). And Facebook isn't one of them. Hoping an earlier version might bring some type of satisfaction.

(I'm gonna abbreviate from here on: VSA is voice search assistant, Now is Google Search/Now, VS is the voice search app that VSA taps into)

So with VS 1.9 and Now 3.3.10 are you able to use VSA to get text in the Now blank? Think I may have misunderstood.

I thought I had my VS 2.1.4 and Now 3.3.11 to work once or twice, but now I get nothing in the blank. That's what it seemed like it was doing way back when I first switched up to 3.3.11 from 2.0: it worked once or twice then stopped (maybe after an os restart? Can't remember). If so, I wonder if something was still in memory from Now 2.0 that allowed VSA to work with Now 3.3.11? If so, does anyone think it's possible to cut and paste something (velvet?) from 2.0?
Btw, just to clarify any confusion, I've yet to get the mic icon in ANY version of Now to work. I've only thought I had VSA work for just those select few searches, but might be wrong. My problems with the "speak again" error in VS are only occasional and seem more frequent during high resource usage.

I was mistaken, I had the latest version of voice all along, I think. With respect to VSA no never worked. I did have older versions of google now(3.2.16 and .17) that did not even have the "enable hotword" toggle available in the settings. I searched to no avail in hopes of finding chrome extension pack required to activate it. Google chrome's site had it but I would get the" we are sorry your operating system is not compatible at this time" so eventually I upgraded to version 3.3.10 which did have in the settings the " enable hotword" toggle. With version 3.3.10 and the latest google voice search when I go into the launcher and hit the mic I get " google search has stopped working" that is with the hotword toggle enabled. If I turn off the toggle then I am back to the usual un responsiveness, but no error. Being a Noob at this can anyone tell me if this google chrome voice extension thing can be modified/adapted to suit our needs or is it locked behind the google fortress?

It only works on GB and below for the OV. When I addressed the issue here first, I had pointed out that the two versions were completely different in size and for someone to test the GB version but it just didn't work.

Anyway, it's not just KK, it's also ICS and JB that it doesn't work on. The ICS, JB, and KK version is above 33mb while the other version is less than half that.

Oh and it's not a factor of newer vs older versions, because I'm on GB and I get updates to the official app. So I just assume Google updates two versions of both the app and mobile website. Both of which can identify which OS version you're on.

On a side note, using an Android 2.3.5 custom user agent string on Dolphin Browser will load the GB version of the mobile website. Because I noticed loading the later OS mobile website will be annoying when you try getting to the menu.

Anyone else got this working yet? Need someone to compare notes with. Just spent most my Saturday trying to get 3.3.11 to work again. I had it working at like 9 am but then messed something up and haven't been able to get it working again. Just reverted back to 2.0.0 and have that working again at least, but that was a good Saturday down the drain.
Btw, I'm a teacher and I had spring break this week. After tomorrow I'm booked like crazy till June. Going to see if I can get my add-on scripts for the internal build flashable so Daffy and others on the internal can give 'em a try ASAP. Wanted to have them fairly well tested first.
One more quick q... been trying to create scripts to flash using ZipMe, but I can't flash my own scripts. I got an error also when trying to flash a titanium backup update.zip too. Any thoughts?

Cool. Let us know when that comes out. ATM I've gone retro. Decided to load up Redbaron2005's StockOV 1.1 with the picasticks kernel. I do have my KitKat and Mirage installations backed up, without any extra tweaks aside from Link2SD. Would love to try your scripts on both. Been busy out of town, so I don't have my V to mess with.

Any browser that allows a custom user agent string. Dolphin Browser is the best browser that allows it.

I forgot where you can find custom user agent strings for Android browsers but I'm sure it's just a Google search away.

How can I use this and is it more beneficial than the original GN launcher?

oh, it's a dev tweak, and we can't use it directly because it targets the regular google search voice engine. But it shows how to pass intents to launch processes and feed them data, which has changed since the old voice search. Voice search could be wrapped similar to what they did before with the assistant widget but up-to-date so it feeds into the search bar on google now.

yaconsult asked about xposed originally, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, it at least looks like the xposed framework itself could be used to get things working by bypassing stuff that doesn't work. Maybe I'll put in a plug to try and get someone to build us a now plugin to bypass Google's default engine.

Also, this week has been the first I've been taking my phone with me to work, and I'm still having battery issues. I took my phone off the charger at 7am, and it only made it until about 3pm. I've got an app to turn off wifi based on location gathered from cell radio, so wifi was off all day. I've also been using Greenify to hibernate, or whatever, almost every app, save for calling, messaging, etc. I'm also using AMC's app killer. Anyone doing anything else that's working well? My phone just will not let the processor sleep.

As an example: I have been testing the stock Gapps package (2xxMB download) on OS2SD. I can get days off a charge not using the phone with no wifi or gapps. With stock gapps alone, no other apps syncing, 3g on, wifi off and set to never wake on sleep policy, I lost 83% charge overnight.

I manually turn off wifi when not using it and get around 4% per hour drain. I also click "wifi on only when plugged in" in wifi advance settings. None of the battery saving apps worked, so I manually shut wifi off and the cpu goes into deep sleep. Still get drain if 3G signal is poor so I put in airplane mode at work and switch to wifi 3-4x/day for updates. Could be also your battery is dying with that kind of drain.

So it looks like gapps sync is a major culprit. Hmm... I need sync enabled on other things because that's how I get work email, and I get texts through Google Voice (got a sweet setup through Ting where I don't pay anything for texts as they go through wifi and 3g, and calls through wifi are free too. About $15/month!). I thought I had Google now greenified, but I'll double check. Thanks!

Battery should be fine as I was getting days to a charge (with use even) with similar settings on Reborn ROM less than two weeks ago. I know for a fact it's not going into deep sleep. System tuner is a great app that shows how much time it's in what processor state: deep sleep, 245, 600, 748, etc. It's show 0% in deep sleep now when I was spending a fair amount of time in deep sleep previously. I may have to uninstall apps one by one (starting with Now) till I find what's keeping my processor up.

Sorry for the many posts. :-( Just found that when I try and sync Google account, I get a pattern of 5-10 syncing, done, syncing, done, syncing, within a 3 second span, then a sync error. Could this be causing the gapps battery drain? Is this a Rom, Kernel, or Gapps issue?

Are you sure Wifi is actually being turned off? I went through the same problem a few weeks back and wifi on does not let CPU cycle into deep sleep at all whether or not I had sync on.

Wow not cool. What settings have you got checked under wifi advanced? The other offending setting I had was "scanning always available" which I inadvertently Enabled after google search prompted, with that on same as wifi being on all the time as far as battery drain. Hope you find the offending app,or apps soon.

Solved! You called it! Boy, those settings are buried deep. I'd forgotten to check there being that wifi was off, my assumption was that... wifi was off. Silly me. :-p
Anywho, will test out battery again tomorrow, optimistically.

On to the next item on the agenda (yes I keep a running list). I'm still struggling installing some zips. My titanium backup created zip as well as zips I've created with zipme give a (status 0) error in cmw. Going to try another recovery. Suggestions? Twrp? I want something where the backups I've made in cwm work, and where I won't run into zip flashing issues. Links would be great! Thanks, and goodnight all! (Depending on where you live I guess)

Hmmm... hard to say without trying it. I'm also more the type to go looking for the best free thing out there, and then throw a small donation their way if it works great. I am intrigued tho, and did pay for the app for 2.0, so we'll see.
