You can also use the jcase's GorditaRoot to root any version of the Optimus V's software.

Hey folks, I am trying to do this on a RHEL machine. Got SuperOneClick running, but nothing happens when I click "Shell Root", nothing happens. Anybody have any experience with this?

    Thanks.

Actually, I got it to go through "Killing ADB Server", "Starting ADB Server", "Waiting for device", and then "Checking if rooted..." with a response of "False".

    Then nothing. Any thoughts?

I suggest giving Gingerbreak a try. You might have better luck rooting with that. Not that there's anything wrong with superoneclick, but rooting can be pretty finicky...

Ok, I switched to Windows and am having better luck... attached a screenshot.

Seems to be stuck at "Rooting device... - Step #5"

    Any thoughts?

Conrail, I looked at the link you provided but that actually seems more difficult. Thanks though.

What baseband version do you have (in "About Phone")? If it ends with ZV9, it's not rootable by the usual methods, and would explain why you're not getting anywhere (you need this method then; it's a little on the complex side, unfortunately http://forums.androidcentral.com/opt...nks-jcase.html)

I just want to point out that this thread is 15 months old, and there are newer and easier rooting methods available -- as Jerry and Conrail already mentioned. GingerBreak is ridiculously easy (doesn't even require ADB) and still works on most phones. GorditaRoot is also easy if you have ADB, and works even on new ZV9 phones.

Can someone please help me with rooting the Lg Optimus V. I have followed every instruction step by step. I am at the point where my phone is connected to my laptop with a usb cable. I click Super One Click and changed the top right exploit to psneuter. When I click on Shell Root it will only make it to Step #1 and than say Installing Busy Box and will proceed no further. I figured out that if I unhook my phone from the USB and turn it off and back on than reattach it to the usb cable it will make it to Rooting Device Step #5 and than will say waiting on device. If I click on the shell root button again it will once again only make it to Step #1. Thanks for your time and help!

    - Drivers for the LG phone installed on your computer. Instructions can be FOUND HERE courtesy of our favorite android hacker, modder, developer, blogger (jack of all trades)
When I tried this, there is no selection for the Optimus V (model VM670).

I installed the LG mobile support app.
when I run it and try to install the USB driver for my phone, it asks me the model. I select VM as the carrier and the 670 does not appear. There are 5 models listed 101,510,696, 701 and 200.

Makes me kinda nervous to install drivers for a different phone.

    Advice ?

    thanks

Worked perfectly on my LG Optimus V - had to search a bit for drivers as the link in this doesn't supply any, but nonetheless I'm rooted now.

SuperOneClick will only work on the ZV4 V's. These where sold before December of 2011.
If you have a ZV5 you could use the Gingerbreak.apk, which will work on ZV4 and ZV5. If you have a ZV9 Baseband V then it would be better to use this: EManUL3XXX Optimus V Root.zip this will work on all baseband versions.
