Yes you need a computer to do all these edits.

That was merged after this thread was made. But if you do it this way, you can change the carrier name in any android OS.

I've tried it on ics via build prop with no success, they only thing I've managed to repeat from iho is changing LCD density. But haven't tried via computer

OK so i did this via apk manager went into this xml and replaced

<EriInfo RoamingIndicator="1" IconIndex="1" IconMode="0" EriText="Virgin Mobile" CallPromptId="0" AlertId="0" />

Is this the right one, its the only one that says Virgin Mobile...
I then recompiled(without Signing, since it says not to with system apks) and pushed it to frameworks folder. phone hangs up on cm9 boot animation.

Any clues????

Also i change lcd density, phone didnt work, tried to change phone apk with htc wildfire s phone From a ICS rom(since im running ICS) and now contacts forceclose.

Wildfire isn't LDPI, its MDPI.


I used winrar to change the eri.xml

You need to edit just like in Jerry's guide using HxD hex editor.

OK so how do I get my phone to work with lower LCD density? I know a lot of people were using different phone to fix but can't find which one.

Use the phone.apk from here. It only has image byg, but works fine.

I updated the OP with info for those on Froyo based ROMs, you can edit the build.prop file located in your system folder and get the same results much easier:

ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=Virgin Mobile
