I just bought another Nexus 4 to play with on prepaid GSM networks, to eventually abandon Verizon for.

Any t mobile carrier is out, as their service is bad here. So att it is....

I have an AT&T ST Sim card, but I was very unhappy with them with my first Nexus 4. So I have ordered a card from Black Wireless. Uses att service, unlimited talk n text and 2gb of data for $60. Seems to be about best bang per buck I can find.

Just curious if anyone else's trying them?

I have not tried out Black Wireless as I am using AT&T ST for the time being. Have you looked into Net10? I believe their plan is unlimited talk & text, throttle at 1.5GB for $50/month.

I did not try Net10 since they are owned by same as ST. I tried them and did not like being lied to.

So far this Black Wireless SIM is working out for me. I might try Net 10 in the future.

Fwiw. Net10 is now up front about their cap http://m.net10data.com/view/page/p/111400/net10-data-policy

Straight Talk, on the other hand....:)

I wonder why they do not allow tethering on a capped plan?? If I can only use 1.5gb of high speed data, why not let me use it as I please??

Is that 2gigs of data at FULL HSPA+ speeds? Or only the first 500 megs or something? I know Redpocket has the same deal going. (Full 2gigs at HSPA+ speeds though.) If its the full 2gigs then its not a bad deal!

I can't find an exact answer. But it seems it is 2gb data at full speed then either throttled or no data at all.

Hmmm.....seems more info is needed. I am using BW now.

My guess is its a full 2gigs worth of HSPA+ speeds then they just cut you off. Still not a bad deal but thats what Redpocket does too. Let us know how the service goes!

Well, today the service is horrible. I did not check it at home, but when I got to work I noticed it was wrong. A quick check shows I have nearly 1.8 gigs left of my att data. But my downloaded speeds have suddenly slowed to .12mbps!!!! No idea why!!!!

As in factory reset? No, shouldn't have to do that. If you are referring to a different reset, I'm all ears.....er, eyes... LOL. I am not sure what you mean.

When I went to sleep yesterday, had full speed. When I got to work last night, I'm at 0.12mbps download speed. Not sure why, but I did notice at blackwireless.com they have made mention of a different customer service line to call due to a problem with their main line.

I have read on here that att will throttle people even on mvno Sims. Not sure if that is true or not.

Not really sure! I'm on att post paid account. A friend of mine uses Redpocket with his N4 and he has a pretty good connection at all times. Maybe its just a temporary issue? Keep us posted! Black Wireless looks like a good deal otherwise though.

Well, so far I have to give a big thumbs down to BlackWireless. I have been stuck at edge speeds for two days now, going on three. Their customer service seems to non existent and of the foreign type. I called yesterday and the man I spoke to acted like I was bothering him when I called. He said he would reboot my account on their end, but I am still with crappy service.

On a side note, my new Nexus 4 keeps giving me "no SIM card" errors. Each time I have to remove and reinstall the SIM card several times before the Nexus will recognize it. Does the same thing with the T Mobile SIM card I have, so I know it is the phone.

Each time I try to find a way to get away from Verizon, its a disaster! LOL

Lol it could be the SIM card tray maybe in your phone? Have you tried your son's SIM? If it fits that is. Also your APN settings are correct?

Well, when it happens, it happens with both the BW sim and the T Mobile sim, so it is my phone. I will deal with that....

But BW is really ticking me off. I called the customer service number and finally got thru. Only to be told I need to call the activation line. A phone number nowhere on their website. So I call it and finally get thru. Of course I can barely understand what they say. I get hung up on three times before I get something going. Then put on hold 5 times. Finally I am told to wait two hours and reboot the phone. Then if there is still a problem, to call back.

At this point I will not renew my plan with them next month. However, if things go much, much better the rest of the month, I'll reconsider. For now though, I have to give BlackWireless a big THUMBS DOWN.

Now to call Google about my bum sim tray....

While I hear you but it could still be the phone making the different in the speeds. Did you change the APN settings though?

Yes, I tried several different apn settings and nothing helped. If I put my t mobile sim in I got big speed! 15mbps!!!!

However, I did have to call Google and get a replacement phone. Mine kept losing the sim card signal. No sim card error. With all three Sims I have.

So it is boxed up waiting to be shipped and Google has sent out a new one for me....

Well, not going well. The replacment nexus came two days later and right out of the box it would not recognize any of my SIM cards. After several attempts, I called Google and arranged for a refund. Sent both phones back.

A few days ago I finally decided what I wanted to get to use that Black Wireless SIM. Ordered an unlocked Samsung S3 from Amazon. Should have it in a few days then we will see if my speeds are still down.

One more update.... Google refunded me for the original phone and removed the hold for the second unit. However, the refund was short 15% for "restocking fee". Really?? Restocking fee for a defective phone??!! I called them and they bumped my account up to a specialist to be looked at. If they refuse the full refund, I will let all the forums and a few news sites know all about it.

Not sure how much that will matter to them, but I guess we'll see.
