Check out a new photo app still in beta, and enter to win one of two Nexus 7s

We're keeping our weekly photo contests rolling right along as usual, but we're doing things a little differently this week. In typical fashion we're providing you with a prompt and offering up some great prizes for your entries, with the small twist that the folks at Pixite are offering everyone an awesome tool to help them with their entries — a beta track release of their photo app, Fragment, that's coming to Android very soon. This week's prompt is "fragment" (or fragmentation, run with it) — and we can't wait to see what you do with that idea.

While creating photos with the Fragment app is in no way required to win this contest, we think you'll enjoy having the opportunity to get in on the beta group before the app is available to everyone. Head to this beta group for Fragment and apply to join. Once accepted (you'll be notified in Google+ and by email), you can head to the Play Store and buy Fragment for just $1.99 and check it out before it's been released on Android.

Our friends over at Pixite are offering up some big prizes this week. To celebrate the launching of Fragment on Android, two winners this week will be taking home a Nexus 7 tablet.

Entering is easy. Just drop your entry in a post below. Tell us what Android you used to get the picture, and any back story you want to add to it. We'll pick a winner Tuesday (August 19) night at 11:59 PM ET, and announce them on the blog with next Wednesday's contest.

  • Pictures must be taken with an Android device
  • Pictures must be uploaded to the contest thread. I'm not running all over the Internet to track them down.
  • You have to tell us what device you used to take the picture, and any special software you might have used. Editing your pictures is fine — this is art.
  • Feel free to add a little back story — we want to know how the picture came to be.
  • You must have used a valid email address to register here at AC, so I know how to contact the winner.
  • Only one entry per week per person.

Good luck, everyone!

Great subject.

Here is a pic I took from an art piece at La Défense (they often put random art pieces on the Esplanade).

This piece (there were actually three of them) was made of little fragments of shiny objects the designer found on the ground there (I don't know if I make myself clear, English isn't my first language).

Taken with an HTC One M8 (no edit).

Fragment... Much you can do with this.

Going in another abstract direction. This is a 'selfie' (hate calling it that ) that I took with the front facing camera of my Droid Maxx with the Camera 2 app, high contrast setting. I used a dark area and a flashlight to create the odd angles and shadows. I felt this showed a rather fragmented reality not only in my expression but also the lines. No further editing was done.

This was one of the first panoramas that I took back when my S3 was new. The result was not what I was expecting because I didn't know how the feature worked at the time. So I stumbled into this interesting fragmented shot.

Adjusted exposure and contrast a little with snapseed to highlight the grain of the flooring.

Edit: I posted my entry before downloading Fragment, but after seeing what cool stuff you could do I had to go check it out and it really is awesome! Such a fun way to create my own unique images for wallpapers. I highly recommend it

Here's my entry for this weeks contest. The image was taken with my nexus 5 and edited with the google camera edit suite. I also used the fragment app for the effects. Diggin these creative contests!

Tiny Planet taken on top of Gunung Nglanggeran in Indonesia. It somehow ended up creating a small forest above the clouds (and an extra pair of legs!). Taken with a Nexus 4 and G+ auto-enhanced.

Taken with my Samsung Note 3, Google Camera Photosphere mode. Processed using Google's Nik Collection, and then used the Fragments app mentioned in the post. I decided for my first fragment to go subdued before trying the other designs, and fragmented the image horizontally, which I thought worked well with the subject and the surrounding landscape... I liked the result well enough to post it.

This capture is taken by my HTC One S. The pic is of my little beloved Malaysian turtle 'Spiky'. He's no more now and that's the last pic left of him as all other pics got deleted by mistake. So that's a tribute to him. ❤❤

Wow, Fragment is actually pretty awesome! I took this black and white photo on a very foggy day in NYC while walking to catch the bus ride home. It's a photo of the Empire State building, with the tip immersed in fog. I took it with my Xperia Z1s, cropped in the native photo editing app, and then fragmented using Fragment. Thanks for the chance to win, AC and Fragment!

In Seattle, my first attempt here at a photosphere ended up a bit fragmented. Taken with my LG Nexus 4 and edited with Snapseed.
