The hypocrisy in that statement is through the roof. How can they be classified as a non profit when they charge for tickets, food, etc... If that is so, how do they get the money to pay their employees.

So in other words, the nfl has brainwashed 300+million Americans into donating them money to watch grown men play a child's game.

And we wonder why we are taxed at every corner. After looking around a bit it is true that the NFL is allowed to claim it is a non profit organization.

A percentage. If everyone paid the same percentage it probably would be less than what we pay now. Hell make it %8 for everyone regardless of what you make and for capital gains as well. And do away with claiming gambling losses, mortgage interest. The only people I know that can claim it can barely afford their house to begin with. In my mind only business should have write offs.

But what do I know? I just know paying %20 to federal is bs IMO.

    Best way to tax someone.

If we had a fixed tax rate that everyone paid the same percentage then that would be some real PROGRESS!

Raising the percentage with the more money you make is essentially penalizing people for being successful.

If one makes a million, he pays 100k if another person makes 50k, he pays 5k.

Make a billion? You pay 100 million.

That way the rich are paying more than the poor and is still fair.

Equal taxes for all is a socialistic policy, it's principles are rooted in socialism.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, pwrsonally I feel the only way we can recover is to switch to a mixed market economy like china's. That way big business isn't allowed to run rampant and create chaos among the government and economy.

You never suspected deficit spending would lead to this one day?

You may want to link to where you got that info from, because socialism is about taking more from people that have it and giving it to those that don't. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Our current progressive tax structure is much closer to socialism than something like a flat tax as that other post you replied to was talking about.

Though having a flat tax wouldn't tax underground and illegal "jobs", and making it illegal to hold money off shore is just another big stick against companies. Fair Tax catches the former, and replaces the stick with a gigantic carrot for the latter.

I know what happens I a socialist economy. I'm not calling for that, what this country needs is a mixed market economy. It is the instability of our bull-market free enterprise system that has caused us not to be a world superpower anymore. Despite how much all of you won't admit it you know it is the truth.

In order for our economy to survive in a global market, there needs to be a medium level of involvement by our government, which our economy clearly doesn't have.

This way business don't run out of control. Look at apple they are clearly at least two separate businesses, a wireless manufacturer and a computer manufacturer. Yet they are still allowed to masquerade as one entity, when they are just as bad as microsoft was before it was forced to individualize it's subsidiaries.

Actually what's caused that was not free market but the everyone gets a trophy, 47% gets government money because I'm too good to work at McDonald's but not too good to leach, the best person doesn't get the job, pop out a tit and put it in someone's mouth, no one holds themselves or gets held accountable for their actions, rich people are evil and got their money illegally mentality of society.

Was reading just a few days ago that the NFL pays no taxes as they are a non profit organization. If that is true we really need to close some of the loopholes in the tax code.

How is the NFL a nonprofit organization?

Billionaires paying Millionaires don't make big money, so it's nonprofit.

On a serious note, I agree, It's crazy that it's a nonprofit organization.

Make what you want of it, as it was kinda hard to understand some of the legal aspects of the situation. I just googled "Why is the NFL tax exempt," and this was the top link. I didn't really go further since I don't care for football, but I saw other links mentioning an attempt by at least one congressman wanting to end their tax exempt status.

It might be a good idea to point out that the teams are not non-profit, only the NFL organization that governs the league. That being said, I absolutely hate the idea of a non-profit that's top employee makes over $10 million per year. That sounds like a profit to me that was just divested prior to earnings call.

Found an article that gave a pretty good reason why a flat tax, or any other form of income taxation wouldn't be much better than what we have now.

Some people say that a flat income tax is the solution. However, most*of the IRC is devoted to the determination of taxable income. Once*you have determined the amount of taxable income, it is relatively*simple to determine the amount of tax that you owe. This is why any tax*based on income will require a tax code almost as complex, vague and*incomprehensible as the present IRC. Just because there are fewer and*lower rates, it will not address the actual problemdetermination of income.
The rest of the article was more about the problems of the IRS and how they hamper free speech in light of the current scandal, but can be found at http://watchdogwire.com/florida/2013...ice-has-to-go/

Not really sure I agree that calculating income has to be complicated...

    income

    /ˈinˌkəm/

    Noun
Money received, esp. on a regular basis, for work or through investments.
    Synonyms
    revenue - earnings - proceeds - profit - yield - gainings

So.. any time you receive money, that's income. We make it complicated by trying to specify exempt types of income, but we don't need to do that... it's probably wiser to not exempt any kind of income.

Didn't we try something similar to that once before and government couldn't leave well enough alone? On paper it may sound ok, but with how big and bloated our government is and its financial track record, I don't trust them to not to go back to their old tricks.

Lets see... central bank: illegal, income tax: illegal, IRS: illegal... I'm having a hard time understanding why you don't trust those things...
