What's in a name.....you don't think the dixie-crats are the same as today's Democrats do you? There's a reason that the Republican party today holds many southern states once held by Dixie-crats, and it has nothing to with Lincoln's actions towards freeing the slaves.

Again it goes back to the '3-D' post. We're thinking of Democrats and Republicans in the same manner that we're thinking liberal and conservative, which is an incorrect comparison. The sense of a liberal figure throughout history doesn't change in the same manner that it changes for the label of Democrat or Republican.

I say the democrats are still about enslaving people. Instead of enslaving blacks, they enslave straight white Christian males and the rich. You can't say it doesn't happen or that it is a lie, because it does happen and it is the truth.

People say things that aren't true all the time. I may read different books, but I haven't seen anything about straight white christian males wearing chains, being bought and sold, branded, beaten, raped, nor their kids being owned by others by virtue of their own servitude. That's the single most powerful demographic in the US (and much of the world) once you subtract wealth from the equation, in both the political realm and in a social sub-context.. Just curious, but do you mean something else by "enslaving"? I've literally never heard of this happening nor heard anyone other than you say that it's true, so I'm not sure we can take your word on the veracity of that without some evidence. Are there plantations, or mines or something that we don't know about?

Negative on the bold part. Wealth inequality is at its highest it's been in some time. That's what hurts us as a society. We have people that are barely making $30,000 a year yet they think that the rich need to be given even more tax breaks so that we can feast on their "trickle down".

You having come from the military, below is a table I found on GoArmy.com. I don't know about you, but I'd say a soldier deserves a little more than this considering how much money Senator John McCain believes is considered "middle class" salary. A living wage for 1 adult with 1 child is roughly $20.00 an hour ($41,600 a year). Back in 2008, John McCain was quoted as saying he thought middle class in America meant a take home salary of $150,000 a year. That was his idea of "middle class". So based on his figures, the military really underpays its soldiers at poverty-type levels.

Rank <2 Years Experience 4 Years Experience 6 Years Experience
    Private (E1) $18,194** — —
    Private (E2) $20,398 $20,398 $20,398
    Private First Class(E3) $21,449 $24,178 $24,178
    Specialist or Corporal (E4) $23,756 $27,659 $28,840
    Sergeant (E5) $25,913 $30,359 $32,490
    Staff Sergeant (E6) $28,285 $33,833 $35,226
Here are the 100 highest paid CEOs, this is their YEARLY salary. And yes, a lot of these salaries are stock option based and tied into other performance bonuses. Here's a video that demonstrates the wealth inequality.

Again, I can't stress this enough, this is exactly why as a country we fail. When you have a whole class of voters that go into the voting booth thinking that the rich are being taxed too much or that the CEOs are being wrongfully targeted. One last graph I'll show below.

I agree with you completely, there is constantly people thinking thinking the rich are taxed too much. You are rich you can take the losses those who get paid 10000 times less than you can't take such a hit in income.

And then when you consider how much wealth is kept overseas to prevent accurate taxation, they're probably paying even less. I remember reading that Romney paid an effective 14% tax rate in 2011. Back in the 60s, the highest tax rates for the wealthiest Americans was over 60%. When you consider how much of our infrastructure is crumbling around us, you can see why. We have to do more with less. But of course, the rallying cry today is that the U.S. government is spending like crazy. It doesn't mention that we've reduced the taxes (that's money coming in) of the wealthiest Americans by at least 30%-40%, but lets lower their taxes even more.

To be honest, I hear a lot of people say that they would like to go back to how things were in the 60s (some that weren't even around). I'm perfectly fine with going back to that era, tax rates and all.....

What about the case regarding "Affluenza" where a drunk teen killed 4 people and was given probation because the defense argued that his lavish lifestyle was the reason he got 4x the legal drinking limit (that is if he was legal) and never had any limits set for him by his parents? Was it 'affluenza' or permissive parenting? | members.jacksonville.com

The local media (I actually live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area which is about 20 minutes from where this took place) did some investigating on the judge and found that the judge sentenced one teen that killed someone to the maximum sentence allowed. Unfortunately, that teen didn't get the benefit of the "affluenza" defense.

Negative on the bold part. Wealth inequality is at its highest it's been in some time. That's what hurts us as a society. We have people that are barely making $30,000 a year yet they think that the rich need to be given even more tax breaks so that we can feast on their "trickle down".

    (Snip)

Again, I can't stress this enough, this is exactly why as a country we fail. When you have a whole class of voters that go into the voting booth thinking that the rich are being taxed too much or that the CEOs are being wrongfully targeted. One last graph I'll show below.
I know what I'm about to say will sound like I'm saying the rich are taxed too much, but in a way, they are. Hear me out on this...

When it comes to taxes and regulations, who's the people usually supporting increasing them on themselves? The rich and big businesses. They can more easily absorb those additional costs, where as the people on the lower end of the scale that are also affected can't. That pushes those lower classes down and/or out of business while the rich gain market share, have staff dedicated to better "work the system", and make use of other tax loopholes that lower classes can't justify.

Case in point from my trucking industry. The government recent passed a rule increasing the security bond on brokers (the people and businesses that get load assignments to small trucking companies). The bond was used to cover freight charges if the broker couldn't pay for some reason, and was raised from $10k to $75k under the guise of weeding out the bad brokers. The near immediate effect was a loss of thousands of small business broker companies and many trucking companies that broker out extra loads to help satisfy their customer demands. They can't justify having such a high bond due to the low business they turned over.

But the big brokerage firms supported the move. They can churn $75k in bills in just a few minutes. That increase in the bond isn't even a drop in the bucket for them, and will cover next to nothing should one of them go out of business. There's an argument to be made that the bond shouldn't be required or at least tied to their revenues, but the point is big business lobbied for increased regulation and expense on themselves and the result is less of the small businesses everyone likes to promote while they take up that market share and flourish.

So I say tax businesses and the rich less because those taxes also affect the little guy and affect them even more. Then again, I'm a Fair Tax supporter partly for that reason. Zero business taxes and severely hinders big business lobbying power.

As long as humans are humans and not robots, there will be inequities.

You aren't seeing the dividing lines.

    I think signatures are stupid.
