Point taken. I struggle on this issue. Liberal Democrat my whole life and anti-gun first 25 years of my life, but after the Navy I majored in History and studied the Holocaust and that is when I changed my mind on and supported the 2nd Amendment, but I just don't know how many more tragedies I can stomach and I question the wisdom of current gun policy in the USA.
We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.

Please excuse me while I go vomit..... You are killing me. Why would you quote Ronald Reagan to a self-professed liberal, and one who is sympathetic to your cause? You need to work on your PR skills because you need to sway the indifferent as well as keep those sympathetic to you. Find a quote by Carter, Clinton, or Obama and I'll be your friend.

Well, I mean honestly, why do you care what someone likes? To want something outlawed because you don't like it is like if you liked hammers and baseball bats but he wanted them outlawed. If that argument sounds crazy, look up to see how many people die by those.

What did I say I wanted outlawed? I just don't want 10000 gun toting people marching through DC during a holiday where there will be millions of people and families with kids.

These guys will be breaking the law. Period. If you guys want thousands of guns, go at it, just don't shove them in everyone's face all the time, which is what you've done (not you personally) when you show up at Town Hall meetings with AR's slung over your back. What message is it supposed to send? Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. You want respect for your rights? Respect the rights of others as well. That's my bottom line. Save the gun toting for the range and the woods, not public gatherings.

I doubt very seriously I could find anything that made sense from a liberal anyway or especially a liberal that will talk about responsibility for your actions Lol.

And what would you say if 2 men were making out in public in front of your kids? I bet that wouldn't bother you. Why does a citizen carrying a gun bother you but a cop doesn't?

I keep hearing about we need to do something because of the kids (usually by someone that believes abortion is OK) and admits that stricter laws won't really help but at least we are doing something. I really don't agree that doing something is better than nothing especially if it will not fix the problem.

There is a societal cost-benefit analysis also to consider. We've decided to accept the risk inherit with the use of cars even though they kill tens of thousands each year in the US alone. I think there is general consensus on the issue, but opinions differ on the cost-benefit analysis on what is tolerable and what is not regarding gun policy. One issue that really tears me apart is I think 50 people a day in the US take their own lives with a firearm by suicide. (Don't quote if I got the fact wrong. or if I am wrong sorry). I believe that most of those suicides are with hand guns.
We should ban prescription drugs, cars, alcohol, cigarettes, knives, and stupid people. Theu caise more deaths than guns do.

If there wasn't guns on the street you wouldn't need a gun to defend yourself! Fact, If someone else pulled a gun i would be worried as i would know more people around are carrying. I know you will say what happens if they have a knife. I'll tell you a little story which proves you don't need a gun to defend yourself. On a public holiday, similar to the one occurring in DC my coach got held up by a knife. His not a big guy, just skinny as his a light weight (70kg) and was in training (cardio only) but out of action from the Aus team due to a broken arm. He was held up by a knife while he was drunk. So a 70kg guy, really skinny held up by a knife - OMG I MIGHT NEED A GUN? not the case. He just slapped the bugger and ran off, simple as that.

Pretty sure, carrying a baseball bat or a hammer around in public to potentially to use as a weapon is illegal. Same if your carrying a knife around, I don't think the excuse "Im saving it for dinner" is going to hold up very well. Gun laws isn't to ban all guns outright, many countries have exceptions to who can purchase guns and numbers. Over here you need to prove a need, e.g if your a farmer to kill fox's etc. If you don't have this you must go to the gun range x times a year and have your gun held up in a gun safe and your restricted to the amount of guns you can own.

And what message does planned parenthood send?

By legally carrying an AR or any other firearm to a protest, or to a town hall meeting I am simply exercising my 2nd amendment right. If a thousand or 10,000 legal gun owners choose to join me that's their business, not mine or yours.

This past Feb. 28th there were pro second amendment rallies in the state capital of Nearly every state. In some of those hundreds if not thousands showed up carrying some type of firearm. I don't recall any of those getting out of hand.

As I also stated in another post, when I carry I am calmer and less excitable. Simply because I am carrying a deadly weapon.

There are huge differences between state capitals and Washington DC. In DC it is illegal for any person to carry a loaded weapon outside of your home, place of business or an authorized recreational area and it cannot be loaded in between, including in a vehicle. It is illegal to bring any unregistered weapon into DC without first registering it (takes approximately 5 days). It is illegal to transport any weapon in reach of any passenger of the vehicle and it and any ammunition must be in a locked container. DC does not honor CCW permits from any state. For just these possession issues, the weapon can be confiscated and the person in possession fined.

You stated that you behave calmer, but can you say that of everyone else? Of anyone else? The idea that a bunch of people are going to break the law, while so armed, thus legally disqualifying themselves of their right to bear arms (once they are convicted, if arrested) and that if confronted, they will all just lay down their weapons and allow them to be confiscated is absurd. If that's what they're going to do, what's the point? They're going to go all the way to DC just to be arrested and have their guns taken away, when the point is to defend their right to keep them?

If anything goes wrong, this easily has the potential to turn into a massacre with numbers that can make 9/11 look like nothing. All it takes is an accident or a misunderstanding or an overreaction and people will die. Why wouldn't they conduct the protest 20 miles away in Virginia, where they're not breaking the law? This thing is asking for a million people. Even if it's 1000, that's begging for an issue.

Can you imagine if all of the Occupy Wallstreet people had weapons? When the police react to them, when they're unarmed, they're brutal. You think they're going to just use rubber bullets and batons against thousands of armed people? I'm not really concerned with the reason at that point, the point is that if ANYTHING goes wrong, (and like there won't be people there trying to start "the resistance!!!!") it won't just be the protesters, police and marines that are hurt and killed, it'll also be innocent civilians who are just trying to enjoy a holiday in the mall.

I'm not sure what planned parenthood's message is or what it has to do with this thread. I'm pretty sure they try to educate women with family planning, but I've honestly never been there.

You've said you live in Australia I believe. If I am right, why you care about what goes on here is beyond me. The cities with the strictest gun laws have the most crime. Look at stats. There will always be illegal guns. I seen a picture of guns that inmates made the other day.
Heres a story for you. 3 roommates were living in Chicago (you can't own a gun there). One called the cops while the other 2 were downstairs with a guy holding them at knifepoint. The officer came to the door and knocked, then left. She called 911 again and told them to come inside. She heard something downstairs and thought the cops were there so she went downstairs. They weren't. He then took his time raping all of them for the next couple of days.
The roommates sued the Chicago police department, but lost. The judge said the police are not responsible for your safety. The supreme court has ruled the same thing several times.

What you don't understand is this is a slippery slope, you make a new gun law, that criminals don't follow, then the people that have their own agenda will use another public shooting to make more laws. It will never stop.

And BTW, if anyone did have a baseball bat in public do you honesty think they would be honest if asked what they were using it for? No, they break current gun laws with no respect of law.

Believe it or not, I am an independent. I don't follow any political party blindly just because they say something is right. I really despise liberals at the moment. They don't hold anyone responsible for their actions. They are usually trying to pull out a tit and put it into someone's mouth. They use to be for limited government and personal freedom but that has been changed. People will follow their party with whatever they say, they don't question it or anything. Its so damn annoying.

Sorry, I had to spell it out at least in the broad strokes because this is one of the dumbest ideas that people can have. "I'm going to go, knowingly breaking the law, stand toe to toe with the US Military". That's called terrorism. Sorry to take the conversation there, but what else do you call it? If people call the Occupy protesters "terrorists", wtf do you call their armed counterparts? This is a disaster.
