I'm baaaaack from my three month exile. Had to have some surgeries but seeing good enough to post here again, so yay.
Welcome back! Best wishes on a speedy recovery!

Things changed a lot in the past 3 months. In case no one told you, gay marriage is legal now in the US.

As for politics, Bernie Sanders looks like he's doing well. I'm wondering what Hillary Clinton will do to put the brakes on the Sanders campaign.

Watching the warmup second string happy hour debate. Rick Perry is already blowing it...again. Lots of pauses. The others are doing well so far though.

Well, I should clarify when I say doing "well". I mean they are speaking good and have good stage presence. Their policies however are as abysmal as ever.

Under Bobby Jindal, I would have been left blind unable to work or afford the surgeries I needed to see again. Rick Santorum meanwhile, doesn't think I should be married to my spouse or have the same rights. All of them want to repeal Obamacare and every executive order Obama has issued. Never mind if they might be helping people. I can't stand today's GOP. I really can't. They are horrible.

This is why we hold elections. If you don't like a particular candidate, you can vote for someone else.

The bigger issue is when people don't bother to vote at all. They are simply throwing their votes away.

Not completely. There's been times where I voted not to vote because I didn't want any of them. :sly:

Yes. But my vote is but just one vote. Voting for someone else doesn't help if the majority of others go in a different direction making me lose my much needed health plan and attempting to make me a second class citizen again. So all I can do is make my case and hope others listen. I don't like such important critical things to my personal life being in the hands of others, but it is what it is.

Well that second debate was quite a wild ride! Trump being booed right from the start. Battles between him and Paul. Paul and Christie. Lots of fireworks! Surprisingly, I think Ben Carson looked best here. Not what I was expecting.

Were you happy with the results? It seems like someone you didn't want would eventually end up getting elected.

Let's just say I'm doing the best I can despite the actions of the government. When more third party candidates started becoming more known and offering something other than one of two sides of the same coin, I started considering them more.

So it looks like Rick Perry just may be the first one out of the race considering he can no longer afford to pay his campaign staff. That's really sad considering we are barely past the first primary debate! I don't think he will be getting a third swing at bat after these last two underperforming runs.

If there isn't a suitable candidate that I like for a particular office, I write in my husband's name. One of these days, he's going to get a big surprise. 😃

Perhaps we'll see a race between Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump. I think having those two run against each other would put a dent into the traditional political process.

Oh, god no. Sanders has a bandwagon and Trump is a racist crazy. O'Malley, and Jill Stein are the only canidates I have my eyes on.

Never even heard of Jill Stein so don't think whoever that is will be winning anything. O'Malley can't even get traction in his own party much less the majority in a general. I wish he would, but he just isn't. I feel he should have started sooner and really got his name and policies out there early on. Instead he is drowning in the attention that Bernie, Hillary, and Trump are getting. I think the money will run out before he really has a chance to make his case and be heard.

Yeah it sucks. Honestly out of the Dems O'Malley is one of the best candidates. Also Jill Stein is the most progressive president candidate by far. She is with the Green Party. Biggest third party so far.

Well, both Jill Stein and Martin O'Malley have campaign websites set up:

Jill Stein for President (website link)

    Martin O'Malley for President (website)

Could we see a race with O'Malley/Sanders/Clinton (Democrat) versus Bush (Republican) versus Stein (Green Party) versus Trump (Independent)?

That would be something the mainstream media would love to cover.

I highly doubt that Bush will be the GOP nominee unless he dramatically changes his personality. He says the wrong things at the wrong time, is completely uninteresting and boring, and worse, has the baggage of family name using the same advisors that got us into Iraq to begin with.

That's not a formula for success. I heard today that because of Jeb's weak performance, Romney is even considering getting back in.

The media wants Jeb Bush to run because it can then talk about the policies of George W. Bush and George H. W. Bush.

If Jeb Bush gets the nomination, then Donald Trump will run as an independent. That by itself will make the election a lot more interesting.

    Yes it will!!

In other news today, Rick Perry's campaign manager resigned. Doesn't look too good for ol' Rick! I think he just might be the first out of the race.

Clarification and additional news: Actually it was his Iowa campaign, not his whole campaign manager. And surprise surprise surprise a day later he is standing on stage with Trump as manager of his Iowa campaign instead of Perry's. Interesting.

The GOP field is like a friggin clown car of half assed ideas. If I had to pick one based on record, it'd be Kasich. On the left it should be Clinton, but she's up to her eyeballs in trouble that would have put anyone of us in federal prison. Bernie was just there to actually be the puppet on the left of Clinton to make her look moderate. His one liners have gained some support from the younger crowd but they're clueless on what it would take for Sanders to get his way (Turn us into a Scandinavian socialist utopia).

I can't wait to see what Bernie's fate is. If you read reddit, you think he will win by a landslide, but we all know he is facing an uphill battle even getting the nomination. I disagree with most of his policies, but I love how he is shaking things up.

Honestly if the dems nominate Hilary, I will loose all hope that they can do anything right. They will need a full turnover to become a viable party in my eyes. Similar to the Republicans...

I can't wait until Trump drops out. I still refuse to even acknowledge him as a candidate. I do however think it is very telling how much traction he has gained. People are tired of the political speak and the games. They want straight answers, and that is what Trump is giving them.
