I bought my very first HDTV back in 1991. (Sony 34" CRT HDTV, shipped from Japan) People said I was crazy because there was only ONE channel that broadcasted in 1080i HDTV and it had nothing but documentaries and travel videos.

4K is the only way to go.... 1080p is great for screens under 50-inch. Not quite enough on a 133" screen that I use with my 1080p 3D projector.

I would not say its the only way to go, seems like a gimmick at best in the case of using it on a phone application. Also no reason to suggest because you have a 133" screen that 1080p is no good unless you are sitting less than 10 feet away you would not even be able to tell the difference between 1080p/4K.

Not saying 4K is useless just seems odd in this case.

You, sir, are what is called an "outlier." I only have a 70" screen and 1080p is absolutely fine.

Hey, if I had the cash, and the wall space I would definitely get a 4K big screen. Sadly I have neither the cash or wall space. For now my two big screen 1080p's will do fine.

The Note 3 won't have a 4K screen, it will have a 1080p screen. The latest rumors are that it will be able to record at 4k resolution and 128 bit audio, if I remember correctly.

You WERE crazy because there was only one channel in 1080i. By the time 1080p content was mainstream, your TV from 1991 was woefully outdated anyway. No way I would buy a 4k TV right now when there is hardly any content for it. Once 4k is more common, THAT is the time to get a 4k TV/projector.

Let's not even talk about usefulness of 4k on a phone. I'm not even convinced 1080p is useful in a phone.

Whether 1080P on a phone is useful remains to be seen, and it depends on your definition of useful. However there is a huge difference between the GS3 display, and the GS4.

Until 4K is the standard in consumer videocameras, then I'm not convinced it's essential in smartphones. That and until 64/128GB is the standard in internal memory for phones. 4K is ridiculous as far as storage size it takes up.
