I have been using a iPhone 6s Plus for a little over a year now (gave my S6 edge to my Mom).
It works fine. But the experience is frankly boring. And the hardware is meh, in the sense and feeling of Apple hardware in the post Jobs era. One thing - the battery life is stellar. No complaints.
They say next year is the big one for the iPhone. They actually said that ....after.... the iPhone 6s was released. So, the iPhone 7 is basically an iPhone 6, whose design is 2 years old, with upgraded components of course.
The Note 6 (7 is actual num) design is based on that of Samsung's new design language that they introduced with the S6 edge, also a design that is 2 years old.
If I had to choose between the two, I would justify the decision this way:
If you like to upgrade every year and get a new device, get the Samsung. Has more options and more possibilities. Updates will be slow to push, but the sPen can carve dribble onto bathroom walls. You'll be the cool uncle or that person at the party with a magic wand and a runaway Google Play Services eating your battery. Your phone will get hot, but not as hot as your polka dot Mr. Robot boxers and unabomber hoodie.
If you like to keep devices for 3+ years then get that fruit. You have to like a little boring in your life for this option. This is the safe bet. Your battery will be great until Apple sends you an update exactly two weeks before the Sept 2019 iPhone release event in which your iPhone will turn into a laggy mess. But no worries because Johnny I've will, in his unfunny non-Austin Powers way, convince you that you can now move icons ANYWHERE on the screen (Gasp!).
Now, where are the damn Pixel Phones....
