My wife just got a Glide!

My wife has one big issue....she doesn't like the phone telling her when she gets a new email...as in an automated voice...also whenever she hits the standby button to turn the screen on, it also tells her what time it is...not a fan! We're both brand new iPhone converts, just got our Android's on Sunday afternoon! (I got the HTC One X) So just wondering where to go exactly to change that setting?! Thanks for any and all help!!

Haha I'm ready to ditch my Mac as soon as Microsoft releases Windows 8. I love my Android, so much better than my iToy.
