I am interested in the Galaxy 10.1 but always see people love the Nexus line. What would be the biggest differences between the two lines to help me decide what to wait for? I saw screen used to be the big factor but now it looks even.

Well, with Galaxy Note 10.1 you'll have the S-Pen and all its functionality and software. This is it's big selling point. The displays are said to be the same but I think the Note 10.1 will have a faster CPU and it will have 3GB of RAM vs. the Nexus' 2GB. If I were buying either I'd go with the Galaxy Note 10.1 for sure.

I am curious what people think could be in the Nexus 10 refresh that could make it worth waiting for.

I think Android 4.4 Kit Kat and maybe some beefier specs.

Here is a nice side by side comparison courtesy of PhoneArena.com Samsung GALAXY Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) vs Google Nexus 10 - Phone specs comparison with the biggest differences are for the processor, memory, graphics being the biggest ones. Since the new Nexus 10 is yet to be announced, likely in a few weeks it will be interesting to see what it has in it.

Even if the new nexus 10 uses the same cpu/gpu, keep in mind you are losing out on the s-pen, and expandable memory (based on previous nexus trends). Otherwise if newest and most stock android is what you're looking for, nexus is your best bet.

The latest OS is nice but I do want the microSD for media access, S-Pen adds benefits to me, DropBox and other freebies plus you can actually find accessories for the GN10.1 2014.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't even think of SD slot. For me with a tablet that is a big seller to bring extra media around with me.

I'm so used to having a micro SD card slot available I just take it for granted. I forget only a few OEM's offer that nowadays.

For me no microSD, no interest. I like carrying my media with me and IF a Nexus actually came in 64GB I wouldn't have as big of an issue, but still I want 64GB is that so hard to deliver.

$550 for a tablet, not for me. I think I will wait and see the new nexus 10

Although $550 for a tablet sounds pricey, if you wanted a 64 gig version of the rumored new nexus 10, I'm sure that'll go over $550, no s-pen either. At that point the only perk is being able to get the latest android update first.

...which might end up not being a perk at all.

    1. Micro SD storage capacity
    2. S pen
    3. I had a Nexus 10, which Google replaced 3 times because of the known and never resolved "random reboot" issue. They finally took back the Nexus 10 and issued a refund because they couldn't resolve the issues. Any tablet that works consistently and doesn't randomly reboot with no know reason HAS to be an improvement over the Nexus 10.

Exactly this. I went through 2 nexus 10s due to bad light bleed and it was under powered IMO. Got a refund and have a pre order in for the note 2014 .

I have nexus 7 and I really like it. I was thinking about getting nexus 10 for some time then I decided to wait. I was also looking at the older note, but resolution is just not there. I went with the note 2014 just because I want the S - Pen for note taking and the hardware is nice and quick. I love the note 10 2014.

S-Pen functionality and expandable memory were what drew me to the Note 10.1 (and I hate Touchwiz). If I didn't care about these two elements, I'd honestly probably have a new iPad at the top of my list, simply because of the more robust tablet app ecosystem. Android is getting better but it's still far away from matching what's available for the iPad.

An example--I use Evernote on all of my devices (Apple and Android), previously used Penultimate on the iPad and thought it would surely be available on Android. Sadly no. All you have to do is scroll through the list iOS apps vs. Android apps at the Evernote App Center so see what way developers lean (23 Android vs. 68 iPad alone). There are a number of other apps I use on both platforms and the Android versions don't compare to their iPad counterparts.
