factory reset before or after upgrading to KitKat

I intend to do the upgrade soon on my wifi 10.1 2014. Plan to use Kies3 but at what point do I do the factory reset? Presumably Kies will give me the option to backup everything? I have all my photos and music on the sd card which I intend to remove from the note prior to upgrading. Is there anything which will not be backed up?

Just follow instruction on KIES screen....Do full back up first.... IT says nothing about doing factory reset..... Upgrade takes a while (about 2 hours total for me with updates for all software and whatever).... Do not rush it, stay with what instructions on screen says to the letter...

IF you do full factory reset you will loose all your date.... Dont think its necessary...

Hello, mine only took about an hour-but I don't have a real lot on it yet. Unless I need to, I won't do a factory reset.
