    Complete tablet newbie.
I just bought a "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition" from Expansys. 365.

It arrived today. No manual of any kind, just a small leaflet in Romanian and a European style USB charger plug but a UK one was included separately.

I don't mind that too much.

But, although it appears to be a nice tablet, at least to a newbie, I had some reservations about the screen. It got fantastic reviews but doesn't stand out as anything spectacular to me.

So, I downloaded some hi-res pictures to show off the quality and they didn't fit on the screen!

That's strange. A standard HD picture, 1920x1080 should fit a 2560x1600 screen easily.

So I downloaded some free Android "check your screen" apps and I visited some websites which identify screen resolution and although the apps say 2560x1600, the websites say 1280x800!

I got a magnifying glass out and I'm pretty sure the screen is really 1280x800.

    Now the questions.
Is there any such thing as a genuine Note 10.1 2014 edition with a 1280x800 screen?
    Have I been ripped off?

The label on the back says "Model : SM-P600".
Under settings/about device it shows SM-P600 Android Version 4.3, Build no. JSS15J.P600XXUBMJ6

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Any lower resolutions than 2560x1600 will looks smaller on a 2560x1600 screen. So 1920x1080 wallpaper will not fit entire screen.

it doesn't look smaller. The 1920x1080 picture more than fills the screen. The edges are not visible.
What I'd expect, if the screen were really 2560x1600, is that the 1920x1080 picture would fit comfortably in the middle with room to spare around the edges.

Just out of interest, can any other Note 10.1 2014 edition users try one or more of these websites and see what resolution they report back for your screen:

What is my screen resolution/display resolution? - Screen resolution statistics
    What is my screen resolution
    What's My Screen Resolution

They all report 1280x800 for me.

Ok this is interesting, when I go to any of this sites using Firefox, it shows 1280x 800, but when I go to the same sites with Next, it shows 2560x1600

    Wonder why?

Some browsers clip pic size to fit perceived screen size... Move a way from browser and use a good picture editor (graphic) program to check screen with.... Make sure any program can display graphic image at full screen... Not within a browsers "frame"....

I've taken a close up picture of the screen and it looks like I was wrong.
There are indeed about 12 pixels to the mm (about 300 pixels to the inch) as there should be.
Picture attached, the grid lines are a little blurred but they are 1mm apart.

So I wonder why the wrong size is being reported and why a 1920x1080 picture can't fit on the screen when there should be room to spare?
