I use a corded headset frequently with my Note 8 for work. So, I purchased a headphone jack adapter from Amazon that had good reviews, but of course no one had tried it with Samsung yet. Nothing happens when I insert it into the phone, no messages/ notifications, nothing. Any ideas or is the Note 10 Plus going to need a "Special" Samsung adapter? The reviews said it worked fine with the One Plus, I-Phone, etc...Any troubleshooting ideas or does the adapter need to be a DAC adapter? Appreciate hearing id anyone else has experience with this yet.

Yeah USB-C to 3.5mm adapters are not consistent with manufacturers so it's almost a crap shoot. I'd recommend just buying one from Samsung. If it's not available yet they will be selling one eventually.

The OnePlus 7 Pro has a built in DAC and the N10 may not.

There are two types of adapters. Some are just a pass through adapters. Those only work with devices that push analog audio from the USB C port and adapt it to work with you headphones. The second type have a built in DAC within the adaptor and receive a digital single from the USB port to convert to a digital signal. The Note 10 mist likely needs an adapter with a DAC which are slightly more expensive than the pass through type.

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. How hard would it have been to include one in the damn box??!!!

its all about $$'s. Word from MSPOWERUSER.com said there were 1.3 million preorders in South Korea alone. Multiple that by the cost of the adapter. In a world where people get layed off to make up 50 cents on the bottom line, its no wonder no adapter was included.

Google included one in the Pixel2xl shipment. Like mentioned about, it was hit or miss. Most people had success with using the C adapter that was supplied.

Not using this as an excuse, but, its about $$.

    PS

They could have set it up to give one to those who request one, the cost would have probably mega low compared to including one with every phone.

What sucks is that Samsung don't even have a black option. What an OCD killer it will be with my Black Note. SMH.

Thanks @billyjoebob007. I bought a couple of cheap-o dongles off Amazon. One worked, but was a little staticky. Another didn't work at all, and my Note gave me a message that I'd attached an unknown USB device. Today I accidentally found a super-cheap option that works great:

This USB-C to 3.5 mm dongle works great. My Samsung AKG NC60 headphones (from the Note 9 preorder) sound just like they do when connected to a built-in jack, and there is no static whatsoever. What's even better is that while they are $12 on Amazon, you can get them for $7.39 at Target right now. No need to order delivery. If you have a Target store nearby just walk in and pick it up.

Obviously I want to have a few of these, and I want to know what my options are. The Apple store offers USB-C to 3.5 mm dongles for just $9, surprisingly the same price as their lightning-to-3.5 mm dongles. I'm going to pick one up next time I'm at my local Apple store and see how that is. Ironic that I'm buying an Apple product to deal with a Samsung deficiency which was instigated by market forces from Apple.

Confirmed....you need an adapter that has the DAC. The ones from Google, HTC and Razer work well. The Razer has the most output but that probably translates into faster battery drain.
They really should have included it.
