5G is not really relevant yet so no need to pay for service or a device just yet. It will take a few more years before it's ven relevant.

as most are reporting it was cheaper to take the 5g over the non 5g model on Verizon. and they also upgraded your plan for free.

That was the S10. When I got my Note 10+ 5G, Verizon asked if I wanted the 5G plan for another $10/month. I said no because I'm not in a 5G area.

I'm in the UK and some of the networks have or are pushing out 5G.

I expect this to catch momentum so just to future proof my purchase I opted for the 5G model.

In fairness it wasn't that much more than the normal Note 10+

I buy my phones outright from Samsung UK.

I already have 5G enabled on my account/plan but my provider only sells the 256gb 4G version of the Note, if you want 5G they only sell S10+ 5G or a Huawei or LG can't remember which of the two.
Full price is 1119.00 so I'll rather pay the 1299 or so that I have to pay for the 512gb 5G version, hopefully I will have it at the end of this week.
It is a bit of future proofing in case I decide to keep it until the Note 12 and it will sell quicker and at a better price too regardless of if I keep it one or two years
