Hey all,

Anyone know exactly what specifications I would need to look for if I want to get a 10 USB Type C that will charge as fast and the cable that came with the Note10+?

Thanks.

Because not every USB C cable charges at the same fast charge rate as the original. I've used multiple C cables and don't get the fast charging notification.

Have you turned fast charging on in the first place?
On my unlocked Exynos model I can turn it on/off individually, wireless or cable and even time it so when charging wireless overnight it only does 5 watt charging

Yes, it's on. It displays Fast Charging with the Samsung cable in the box but with any aftermarket cable is only shows Charging and the estimated time until full is longer.

The universally capable cable spec (meaning it'll also be able to fully utilize the 45W charger) would be USB 3.1 Gen 2 or better. I seem to remember reading somewhere that 10 ft cables aren't currently possible to fully meet that spec (the increased length increases resistance and slows data/current below the spec requirement). That may have changed recently, but that's the spec to look for.

Thank you, exactly what I was looking for.
You're welcome.

I forgot to mention that if you see any references to having an e-mark (a special identifier chip in the cable), just ignore it. The USB 3.1 Gen 2 spec already requires that chip, so is redundant to say it has one. The Gen 1 spec and some USB 2.0 cables can also have that chip, but can not handle the full power of the 45W charger. So just because a cable listing claims to have that chip doesn't mean it's 100% compatible.

45 Watts at 20 Volts is 2.25 Amps. I wouldn't go for any smaller conductors than 22 gauge for 10 feet. That gives you a 1.16 Volt drop at the end of 10 feet - 5.78% - which will make a measurable (if small) difference in the charging time.

But try to find the power conductor gauge in a charging cable - it's not listed anywhere that I've seen.

That said, I use a good quality braided 10 foot cable on one charger (I can charge in the bedroom or living room) with no problem. All a thinner can;e is going to do is get warm (if it gets noticeably warm, it's too small, don't use it) and increase the charging time. It won't damage the charger or the phone.

The Volutz brand lists their power wire size, and the 10 ft. cables are 19 gauge. Unfortunately, I don't think they have any proper spec'd cables to match the capabilities of the N10+. They seem to change up their product line often, and right now I'm not even seeing a USB C to C option. But hey, if you want a highly durable cable, these cables last a long long time.

At full power, the Samsung 45W charger is 4.5A@10V. That works out to a .72V drop (7.25%) over 10 feet on 19 AWG wire. You might get away with 16 AWG since it's not a constant 45W load, but ideally you'd want 15 AWG or larger for that distance to get under a 3% voltage drop. That would be a beefy cable for sure.

I'm curious where you got the 20V basis from for your calculations.

I know you asked for 10', but if you think you could get by with 6.6', this one worked for me -

Be aware that it's a fat bulky cable. I was surprised when I got it - didn't notice that from the pictures. Well made though.

Would a 10 ft cable not take up same space/weight as a small powerbank anyway?

It would. I have the Aukey CB-CD6 USB-C to USB-C 6.6ft Braided Cable... It does weigh more than a normal cable. But i wouldn't say it weighs like a small powerbank...

Im guessing OP wants the 25W or 45W charging capabilities...

First pic is Aukey 6.6ft, second is with Apple 6.6ft and lastly third is the cable which came with my N10+. (i tested with the adaptor which came with my N10+)

With this, i conclude that Apple's 6.6ft USB-C to USB-C works best.

Im not at all shocked... Apple's USB-C to USB-C can hold up 87W...

I'm surprised by the Aukey cable I must say, even if it is a 6 ft it should perform better than that.
I liked the app enough to get the paid add free version as well so looking forward to try it on the pack of 3 different cables I have coming this week.
