alarm clock app draining battery overnight while charging?

I've tried a few alarm clock apps while using a wireless dock stand. In the morning, my battery is never 100%. In fact, this morning, it was only 65%. When I look at the battery usage/charging, I see a steady increase in battery until it hits 100% (middle of the night). It then seems to stop charging and battery starts draining. What should I be looking at/for to remedy this? Battery charges normally to 100% if I don't use a clock app at night but the AOD clocks aren't big enough for me to see across the room.
Can anyone advise?

Wireless chargers usually don't keep charging past 'full charge' if the phone is used (to protect the battery). Wired chargers can most times still power your device after the battery has been charged, unless the app is drawing too much power.
