I'm not sure which app brought the spam with it, but there's 2 apps on one of my desktop screens called "bug me later", and "search" and If you open them the browser launches and takes you to"livemobile" something and then redirects to "partners.handango.com/smartphone/etc."

It's a total invasion, the app isn't listed in my applications list and I did not create the shortcut. I can delete the icon (no option to uninstall), but in a few days it'll come back. I think it may have come along with a fake version of the new bbm for android I installed.

I'd like to figure out what app it is and uninstall it.

Unless I'm not completely understanding what your talking about. Try air push detector. Its a free app that will show you which app is installing theses spam apps

I use an app called lookout (free version) that will scan apps to see if they carry viruses and they will remove them for you or apps that you've removed that still has residual files on your phone. I also use clean master (also free) that will get close apps and give you more space and find residual stuff on your phone. I am considering buying the full version of lookout so that if my phone is ever lost, I can track it and wipe it via my computer.
