Galaxy Note 2 - Putting phone down causes phone app to run and place a call

I haven't found any posts relating to this issue. Now and then I'll turn the phone off and set it down only to have it open the phone app and dial the last number I called. This has resulted in my accidentally calling people in the middle of the night.

I thought the phone being jarred when put down might contribute to the problem, but I can't reproduce it that way (and every motion-related function is turned off). I'm pretty confident that I'm not pressing any buttons or icons to cause this to happen. I suppose it's possible that the cover (Samsung flip) brushes an app icon while it's closing, but that seems unlikely. It does seem, though, that the touchscreen is very sensitive, at least compared to my old iPhone 5, so maybe I am pressing on something I shouldn't when I put the phone down.

Anyone else have this experience?

The first thing I would do is try using the stock battery cover and not the Samsung flip cover to see if there's any impact.
