I have a factory stock Samsung Galaxy Note 2 with Verizon purchased new in July 2011 and it is consuming battery power about 5 times faster than it use to. For example, turned on with no use, it is burning the battery at about 10% per hour. With use like reading newpapers on websites or shooting and watching video, I would estimate 25-50% per hour battery consumption. Wifi, GPS are off. This seemed to occur about early to mid 2015. I called Verizon and they said they have had no reports of such. Can anyone help me with this problem please?

The Note 2 didn't exist yet in 2011. But if you mean that the device is several years in use, buy a new battery.
How to check on battery consuming apps is already described at many places.
