Certain credit cards will extend the manufacturer warranty an extra year beyond the manufacturer - and yes, it's by using that card to buy the phone. Some credit cards might extend it two years. However, they probably don't provide accident coverage for the drops, spills, or cracks that account for most repairs.

It is not an extended warranty and I don't have to buy me phone with my credit card it is on what I pay for my Verizon service

You're right! Some credit cards will help with protection based on paying for the underlying phone bill. There's a lot of variance between credit card companies, their individual card offerings, and benefits changing each year. The most common credit card coverages we see are standard extensions of the manufacturer warranty and exclude accidental damage protection.
