As the icing on the cake of an annoying day, do not disturb mode (Note 20 Ultra, Android 11, oneui 3.1) is suddenly not working. The sound doesn't come on, but the answer/decline comes up and it interrupts my mp3 apps. There's very few people whom I want calls from, and I most certainly don't want to be bothered by scammers. I'm on Boost Mobile, if that matters.

I've changed no settings lately. I haven't done any updates in 2 or 3 weeks. I fiddled around with it, changing from contacts to favorite contacts only. Nothing works. Also restarted it.

It seems like there's always something going wrong. The S5 was increasingly ancient, but the basics worked.

No, I don't. Does one have to use the schedule for the feature to fully work?

There are a few people that I need to allow, like if there's an emergency from relatives.

It was working; the unwanted calls weren't popping up.

As history's one of my hobbies, to use a history analogy, my N20Ultra is kind of like a King Tiger. It looks great, outclasses everything if it's working right, but is often finicky and there's something always acting up.

I'm not exactly sure if my problems are an Android thing or if it's related to the phone itself.

I got the mp3 playlist conquered, although it requires extra work. That was an Android thing. I'll do further experimentation on the call muting problem. I'll get out the crappy first dongle (audio was utter crap) and see if the call mutes. My call didn't get muted today.

Yeah some run into issues the way they use their phones and others don't , it's strange .

If this continues, I'll certainly look into dumping the Note 20 Ultra. It was mostly a gift, I didn't pay much for it, so I guess I could write it off. It would be the world's most expensive remote for a Grace Internet Radio. That would certainly be heartbreaking after I did so much research to choose the N20Ultra over everything else.

The problem; if it is Android and not the phone, I'd have the same problems on an LG.

The problem roughly corresponds to when the phone did it's weekly scheduled reboot (although another reboot didn't fix it).

Perhaps I should look into dumping the carrier (Boost) before giving up on the phone. Could the carrier have anything to do with it?

Although an iphone would probably work, I remember how I despised Itunes many years ago, and I'd certainly miss the customization.

When I look up do not disturb mode on youtube, it has the dialer popping up but remaining silent. I was under the impression that it was like the S5's blocking mode? No disallowed contacts pop up, and one only sees the aftermath as a phone notification. However, mine was doing exactly that; what I wanted. Or, perhaps I wasn't noticing it because nothing was paused on my audio app.

The dialer popping up is hardly a do not disturb mode. There is one fix I can think of due to a flaw in oneui 3.1. If I revoke the notification permission of the dialer, it won't pop up, but makes it difficult to field the few calls that I actually want.

My goal; to completely block all calls which I don't want (anyone who's not in my contacts list), with no dialer popping up, no nothing other than a little notification on the phone app afterwards.

That's the reason I use pixels, Android in general seems to work better on them since it's pure Android... Google made phone running Google made OS. That doesn't mean they're problem free, and it does seem like as Android gets more complex it gets buggier. But it does seem like Samsung's (along with others) modified version of Android tends to bring more issues with it.

Can you block unwanted calls through the dialer? You could block withheld numbers or perhaps try out a few dialler apps in the play store and see if any of them work for you? They may well allow only calls from favourite contacts or from contacts. That could be a possible solution. Except I don't trust Truecaller app.
The Google dialer does have this option under settings_ blocked callers

yes, my dialer has be ability to add blocked numbers, but that's like whack-a-mole.

The only way I found to disable the ringer popping up is to block pop up notifications (although texts, which I want, show up). However, this makes it hard to answer the calls I actually want.

There is a third party that Samsung offers, Hiya, to block calls, but I suspect it's worse than having the calls show up.

I suspect turning off pause in poweramp will solve most of my immediate problems but I have no idea why Samsung would think it's a good idea for the ringer to pop up (for non-contacts) in do not disturb, especially when they were able to do it in 2014.

I can't find a setting in poweramp to block the ringer itself, but I did turn off pause for phone calls.

If you have one of those blocked numbers as a starred contact - you could change the setting to get a notification from contacts only. If they are not a contact you have saved in your phone contacts - You will not get notified by DND. Your phone should not ring period.

I have a friend who bothers me all the time. She calls numerous times of the day. I have her as a phone contact. If I set my phone to get notifications from starred contacts - I just remove her as a starred contact. She'll try to call and does not know why the call doesn't go through.( When DND is on) A headache saver for guys and gals.

Remember - If you really don't want them as a contact. Take them out of your phone altogether. If they are there and you set your DND to accept notifications from all contacts. You will get them from that person. You don't really need to block the person. That is your option to do it.

So you see - it's which way you set your DND. Also what time you want to set your rest times so you don't get notifications from social media and apps. I want to get sleep at night. I'm a light sleeper as is. I don't need my phone dinging and making all kinds of sounds at sleep time. DND eliminates all of that!

These are random spam calls. Most never call back again. I even tested it on the old S5, to make sure I wasn't misremembering. The ringer did NOT pop up for non-allowed callers. The only evidence of a call is a missed call notification.

I would like the ringer to pop up for allowed, wanted calls. I.e. parents, friends who are in my contacts list. I don't want all others.
