I have a Unlimited plan and another line that's not up for an upgrade yet. How can I get this phone on the contract price?? 3rd line maybe? Will Verizon even allow that??

You need to either add another line and process the upgrade there or get the upgrade on an existing line in your household that doesn't already have an unlimited data plan. Once the phone arrives, you go to the store and ask for it to be moved to the line that you want to have it on. The trick is to never process an upgrade on the phone that has the unlimited data plan. You can get some info from the comments on this post: http://www.droid-life.com/2012/07/20...nlimited-data/.

You can add another line (3rd Line) and you can keep your unlimited plan and get the phone on the contract price. Once you get the Note 3 you can go online to your account and switch the Note 3 from the 3rd line to your main account (line you want the Note 3 to be on). After you make the switch get a flip phone and put this on your 3rd line ($9.99 a month) no data. It works I already done this when I got my Note 2!! Verizon allows up to 5 or 6 lines on an account, maybe more not sure how many!!!

What are the repercussions of opening another line just to get an upgrade on it and then cancelling it right away?

i had an upgrade on my unlimited line.....i transfered the upgrade to my "dumbphone $10 a month" line and preordered the note 3. when it comes i'll just have to activate the sim for the dumbphone line and boot up the note 3, then since i have a note 2, i'll just have to remove my sim and switch it into the note 3. last step is to reactivate my dumbphone and i'm good to go.

problem as i see it is that you need to have a dumbphone already for your 3rd line if you are going to create one. amazon has cheap "old" phones that might do the trick. I canceled our home phone a few years ago and ported the number to my dumbphone line. it's way cheaper than the $45 i was paying qwest for a home line, and it works well for this sort of upgrade shuffle to keep my unlimited data....just a thought.

You will have to pay $350 early termination fee, so you will pay $299 for the phone on contract and then another $350 for ETF. You may save $50 going this route, full retail for the Note 3 is $699

$699 plus tax = Full Retail

    $299 plus tax + 350 ETF

cheaper to just have an extra $10 a month line hanging around than to pay the ETF.....

Depends on how much your taxes and fees are. $350 works out to $14.58 a month, so if you are paying more than $4.58 in taxes and fees, then paying etf would be cheaper.

True, however Senechka wanted to know the repercussion for opening up another line and cancelling right away. Understand with the ETF each month you complete they take $10 off the ETF. I agree is cheaper to just have an extra $10 than giving up the ETF at once

In the past I have added a line then simply moved that number to a MiFi $20 a month or a Tablet LTE $10 a month if any were available. If you are planning on a tablet that is the cheapest route to go.

Yeah, sounds like I'd have to talk my wife into giving up her phone for awhile.

Tablet plans aren't allowed on the family share plan. Yes, you can use a tablet on the family share plan, but you would get no price break. You are correct for share everything, but then you would not have unlimited data, which is the stickler here.

No tax on the etf fee, it is a straight $350.

I guess it depends on your finances, and how much taxes and fees you pay. I have heard of someone paying $7 in taxes and fees, for $17 total, which comes out to $408 after 2 years. Also, don't forget to factor in the $36 activation fee, which brings it to $444, or about 26% more. So you would be saving $94 in that case.

In my case, I pay around $2.50 in taxes and fees on my dumb phone lines, so $336 is 2 years and the $36 activation fee. It makes sense for me to ride out the contract.

So like I said before, it really depends on what taxes and fees you pay.

may be a problem here as note 3 rumored to have embedded sim, will have to process line change at store perhaps

exactly why i called verizon.....the embedded sim definition is still up in the air because i've gotten a couple different answers, however they all agree that in the event of an truly embedded sim i would still be able to switch lines. one said i would have to call in to do it, and one said i would be able to do it online. i guess we'll see....irritating
