Logitech wants you to use their product, not someone else's even if you bought theirs. Think about it, they gave the app as an addition to their Harmony line of remotes....not as a replacement....to control your TV. If that wasn't the case, people would get the app (and set up an account with Logitech) to control the TV and not buy the remote. Technically, any IR remote, including smartphones such as the N3 or HTC One, would be considered competition because it is in fact in most cases, a direct replacement to stand alone original remotes using IR......and that's what the Harmony is....a replacement to original remotes to products.
