Device does not support initializing in Kies

I recently started using Kies on my windows laptop and, when trying to check for an upgrade for the first time, I got this error. I have got it ever since, and so I can't use Kies to try to get an update that way.

Anybody getting this error? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Are you using Kies or Kies 3? Kies 3 supports Note 3 and any device on 4.3 and higher.

are you using a stock or custom rom?

I am using kies3, yes, and stock.

Try to perhaps un-install Kies, and re-install. There could also be issues with your USB port, and or Sync Cable, try others if possible.
