I am with t-mobile and got the phone last week and upgraded to 4.4.2 and the first week was fine but now I noticed battery life is poor. 41% after 8 hours compared to the average 65-70% before. Will I get a new phone or a refurbished one?

This is software issue, changing phone won't fix it. I think there is a patch on the way.

In the meantime, I managed to get KK battery under control, by using fast reboot frequently.

Changing phones would solve it by sticking to 4.3

Best thing to do would be to call your T mobile store and see what they say you are getting.
Even then, I would call T mobile customer support and make sure you get a NEW device. Don't settle for anything less.
They way you will be able to get a device that is still on 4.3
If you got a refurbished, there is a possibility that it might be a recently refurbished and might already have 4.4 on it.

Really? There's nothing wrong with the phone, why should the OP get it exchanged? It's software and only that.

To revert back to 4.3. If there is a software issue with KitKat than I would I'd return the phone, get a new one and wait for a fix before updating again.

I wouldn't just settle is what I'm saying.

I think as of a week or two ago though, people who got a new phone, got 4.4. The original poster could be lucky and find a TMO store that still had phones with 4.3 though.

That makes sense, Google and Samsung really messed up worth this update.

I am new to the note 3 and 41% after 8hours sounds good to me! Most smartphones don't get close to that kind of battery life.

Question I turned on airplane mode around 1 AM at 99% and went to sleep turned it on around 10:30 this morning and was at 93%. Is that the norm for runoff during the night? This is probably the first time ever i haven't charged my phone over night so I have no reference for this

As others have said so he can get back to 4.3 and avoid the update till the battery drain is fixed.

That doesn't seem too bad. Airplane would have killed the network connections, which would save some battery life. But it also comes down to what apps may have been running and recently opened etc.
Next time try clearing all recent apps and clearing the ram. I try to do that every night and I usually only drain about 5-10% max overnight. And that's with network and wifi on.

with airplane mode, it should drain less than 2% overnight. Try clearing memory, use apps such as fast reboot.

To be honest. the phone works right? It just has a slight battery drain. Besides Google and/or Sammy will fix it I'm sure.

OK, I'm taking a guess here....

Your battery life is KILLER man. 17 and a half hours @ 71% with 24% screen on time! That's nothing even remotely to complain about. Besides, look at all the crap you got going on in the notification bar.

I'd say French kiss that sucka and make it your best friend....

Again. Look at all the crap you have going on in the notification bar.

Just because you didn't use the phone while sleeping, it doesn't automatically stop apps from pushing/pulling data. And yes, those apps will punish your battery. That's why AOS and AS are so high.....constant use....even while sleeping.

Based off my usage of my galaxy s4,s3, s2 and nexus 5 them 2 never was that high and I always had this much stuff in the background. This problem started with Android 4.4.2 for the note 3
