I haven't been able to copy my photos from the DCIM folder on my external Samsung 64gb SD card to my mac. Partially I have been able to download about 4000 of my 6000+ photos with Kies. But only after trying countless times. After not being able to download any of the camera movies I deinstalled Kies and installed the latest version of Android File Transfer instead. It does give me access to the internal card and I can copy stuff to my HD (macbook pro -2.5Ghz Core i7- with OS 10.9.3) but when I try to access the external card I only get to access the Android, data,DCIM and LOST.DIR I can't go further then the Camera folder. When I copy the DCIM folder whole, it only copies the folder, not the content. If I try to open that folder or copy it to the HD it prompts the error: Can't access device storage. If your device's screen is locked, blahdiblah... How flippin hard can it be to access photos on a phone?!?! Is there a better way to sync photos without copying over the old ones? I have tried Kies, AFT, Airdroid, MobileGo. All to no avail. My Note 3 is running stock Samsung, and has had 2 updates in the time that I have been struggling with this problem, which is a couple of months since I bought it. It is driving me mad. I thought that iphone and itunes was bad, but this is way worse. Hope someone has an answer. Thank you.

Same thing just started happening with my S4 with 4.4.2, which is one of several very annoying issues (fast battery drain, not being able to wake the phone, et al.).

I'm having the same issue--very frustrating. Not sure if the folder is just too big, but that's my guess. Any luck with resolving this? I found advice to uninstall Kies from the Mac, which I've tried (twice), reboot (many times) and still no luck.

    Any solutions greatly appreciated.

I agree that it should be easier to copy files from an Android device to a Mac. I've had good fortune with Kies or AFT to do exactly what everyone in this thread is trying to accomplish, but may not have run into a file/path length issue so it could end up being the same for me at some point. So below are a few options to consider. I haven't tried/tested all of them, but in theory they may work. On a side note, there's much I like about OS X, but at times like this I start thinking about Windows.

Droid NAS. I used it some in the pre-Yosemite days with a Galaxy S3. Worked well. Just tried to see if it will work on Yosemite. My Note 3 does show up in Finder, but I didn't see a way in the app to set a username/password. Guest access didn't work for me either, but if you can get in that way it may be good enough. So Droid NAS may be a no-go, but may not hurt to try.

WiFi Transfer. The thread below is for the Note 4, but some of the apps mentioned may work. Airdroid and WiFi File Transfer Pro are the two listed.

Cloud Storage. Another option that may not be as practical depending upon your network situation, is to copy stuff to Dropbox or Google Drive, and once in cloud storage, copy back down to your Mac. If there is a file length or path issue, then the cloud storage option may not be feasible either.

FTP Server. An FTP server running on your Note 3 is yet something else to consider. I haven't tried any, but there appear to be a bunch in the Play Store. I'd try this on your home WiFi so that security is not a concern (turn off the FTP server once not needed).

Mac with a Windows File Share. Setting up your Mac with a share that shows up on your home WiFi network as a Windows share may also work. Many file managers in the Play Store can see SMB (Windows) based file shares. https://support.apple.com/kb/PH18707?locale=en_US
Access the Windows file share on your Mac from the file manager on the Note 3, and then copy over the files. Explorer is one I've used that supports SMB. https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...explorer&hl=en
