I absolutely loved my note 3 until i downloaded kitkat. up until that point, it was easily the best phone i had ever had. now it is horrible. i am so sick of my battery dying half way through the day when i haven't even used it! i have kept my phone on power saving mode for days in hopes of helping the battery, even though it doesn't seem to help at all. today, along with power saving mode, i even turned on airplane mode today. yet, by 4:00 with maybe 30 minutes of screen time, i was down to 40%. this is absolutely unacceptable. i have performed a factory reset, as well as cleared cache partition and disabled every app i can think of. i know i am not the only one experiencing this. if this isn't resolved soon, i will have to get rid of my note. it is almost pointless to have a phone at all when you have to turn everything off and are afraid to use it because it will kill the battery that much sooner.

the two killers are Android System and Android OS. i have read several threads of people installing GSam to solve this problem, but still not tracking it down, so i haven't tried myself.

GASM won't fix an issue; it's a monitoring tool and it can help you diagnose the issue, but honestly, I have not had issues with KitKat (albeit some others have). If you want to try to address the issue, your best bet would be -

1) Perform a Cache Partition wipe and if that doesn't work -
2) Perform a factory reset (pain, but it will more than likely fix the issue)

Before resorting to step 2 - take a close look at the apps you're running, as one of them may be the culprit.

I get monster battery life with KitKat...seriously. I can go for 2-3 days sometimes with light use...and I have seen even more recently.

There's no update needed to resolve the issues you're having - just a bit of sleuthing!

You aren't alone on this one OP. I too am getting more intolerant with my Note. On 4.3 I was easily averaging about 6 hours screen time. I am lucky if I get 4 hours now. As well I am having to charge in the afternoon now. Hell, today I had to charge twice.
I have done the reset, downloaded one app at a time over a few weeks at a time. Still no resolve. I can no longer brag about great battery life as I used to!

Location settings, Google now, air view, air gesture, everything is on. Now before you say that's the reason I'm gonna tell you it is definately not. Sure it is greatly impacting my battery, but, since the kitkat update I have not done anything different. With the exact same setup on 4.3 I'd get 18 hours standby with 2h30min-4 hour screen on

You're lucky. I have disabled nearly everything. I used to keep Bluetooth, location and NFC on all day with no problems. Now I have to resort to airplane mode just to make it to 6:00 pm

I'm rooted so no updates for me. I never jump on a huge update right away though.. I give it some time due to issues like this.

So what's the problem? You have 23% left and you're at 3hr10min screen on time?

Can you post some screenshots to see what exactly it is that is draining your battery?

Try turning off Google's always scanning wifi and see if that gets your Android OS % down.

Also, have you tried an app like juice defender or easy battery saver? They disable data and periodically turn it back on to get emails, sync, etc.

You haven't changed any settings or turned on/off anything different between 4.3 and 4.4?

I swear to you everything is the same except I have around 225 apps on 4.3 but only 107 on 4.4 (after the factory reset I was too lazy to re download everything)

I just installed the update from Kies yesterday and I think that I am getting slightly better battery life although I wasn't getting bad battery life before the update. I think I improved my battery life quite a bit by killing off a bunch of bloat ware.

But I am perfectly happy only getting a day of use.
