Galaxy Note 3 battery drain...

Ok so i've seen a few threads between here and xda regarding the Note 3s battery issues but felt the need to make my own as I still haven't found any kind of solution.

I purchased my Note 3 N9005 (I live in the UK) around a month ago and ever since my battery has been terrible ever since. I am basing this on the fact that I have owned a Note 3 twice previously (I managed to get one just after they came out for a reasonable price second hand and also owned one around 6 months ago for a while) and battery life on those two devices were fantastic.

Around a week and a half ago I decided to root and try a couple of roms to see if it would make any difference after making sure it wasn't my SD card causing the problem and couldn't really try anything else. After going from the CMRemix, CM11 and Echoe 5.0 not a great deal changed on each after using each one for a couple of days, every day my battery gets hammered by 'android system' and 'android os'. After seeing a post about it I have gone back to stock touchwiz using the 4.4.2 Nordic firmware. This made no difference either.

I have posted some pictures of my battery life since getting up this morning. I always have sync turned off and my screen is always just above the minimum brightness. Im on Wifi a lot between work and home which in theory should use less power. I've been playing contest of champions quite a bit recently which I would expect to be a battery drainer but it is still beaten by my screen and this android system and OS combo. I also don't get why battery dropped around 18% (30 something to the 15% warning) in around 20 minutes which is the red line on the battery graph. Last Friday I went to sleep with my battery on around 78%, when I woke up it had dropped to 42% with no apps left running.

I'm literally out of ideas. I've tried everything i've seen on forums and it hasn't worked. I've owned an S5, m8 and z2 but ended up coming back to a note because they are simply fantastic phones. I am however seriously considering selling this and getting a different phone if I don't figure this out soon though. Can anyone help or is this simply an unsolvable problem caused by horrendous software implementation???

Android System at 19% and Android OS at 15% is about normal. (My Android OS is currently at 26% and Android System is at 15% - and they vary back and forth during the day - AT&T Note 3.) Letting the battery go to 5% regularly will shorten both the battery lifetime and the time between charges quite a bit, but that takes time to develop, not when it's new and not as bad as yours even after a month. I'm making just an educated guess (I'd need a battery analyzer to confirm it) but I suspect a defective battery. (Do you have Power saving on? That slows the CPU and helps battery life.)

Thanks for the advice. This isn't a new phone though, I purchased it second hand. I did contact the woman who I bought it from just to ask if she'd noticed any point that her battery life got worse but she said she'd never noticed anything however she is a very light user.

Are android OS and system always that high. Can't say i've ever really noticed on previous android phones but my wife has an xperia z3 and after 24 hours her battery only read 10 and 9% for these stats. Just seems quite strange considering the battery life on the notes I previously owned were amazing. Stupidly enough the actual physical battery was the last thing I thought that might be the problem lol

could be normal battery aging, get a new battery. quite cheap now.

I don't feel that this is 'normal' battery drain. I've never experienced such an irregular drop on any other phone ive had. Could a dodgy battery cause android OS and system to be so high?

Bought a new battery directly from samsung. Hasn't made any difference at all :(

Just want to add on an example that in general mirrors what Rukbat noted on Android System and Android OS. Not exactly the same values, but in general, appear to be relatively close. If overall you're getting good battery life (for me I consider that 12+hrs of normal usage, e.g. wake up around 0600, go to work (use phone for messaging, some music, occasional phone call, light browsing and checking personal email on breaks/downtime), leave work around 1700, then plug in phone around 2230, then wake again at 0600 at 100% charge); then I wouldn't be too concerned on the various process specific usage.

Edit: I should note that the battery is the original that came with the phone since purchasing ~ Dec 2013.

Anker extended battery at Amazon. With phones this big they tend to distribute their size/weight uniformly. Pretty unobtrusive.

Your usage is fairly similar to mine except my day starts at 5:00. I just remember when I first had a note 3 and the battery was an absolute monster, impossible to kill in a day. Its more this irregular drop im concerned about and why android os and system are so high when my wifes z3 has those values both at around 10% after two days of not charging her phone. I guess this is normal note 3 millage since the 4.4.2 update, just seems a bit of a shame that samsung killed one the best features about the phone by not QAing there update properly before pushing it out

I have a new note 3 and something is keeping it "awake". But I can't figureoutwhat.

Sent from my most awsome note 3

You may be having the same problem as me. I'm rooted again now and have been running wakelock apps but can't see anything obvious. If it is common now that since 4.4.2 came in for Android system and os to be so high then that's what's causing the drain, between them they take more battery than a very graphically intensive game I've been playing. That in itself rings huge alarm bells. It still astounds me that my wife's xperia z3s battery stats have those numbers at half the values after nearly 2 full days

The app night mode. And tapatalk. But I'm sure most of the time, in order..screen..android system..android os..
I don't use the app night mode often...and I don't know why tapatalk is above the screen.

I'd definitely recommend uninstalling those apps and installing them again, that should hopefully do the trick. In a last ditch attempt to solves my issues I've tried flashing a custom kernel. So far the Android system and os percentages have dropped a little compared to anything else I've tried before. I'll be charging overnight then giving it a full day of normal use so I'll post screenshots tomorrow evening to see how they compare to the ones I posted originally.

I think the guy at the phone store said if I boot in safe mode it would disable the third party apps, then I would know if it was one of them.is this true?
