I have a galaxy note 3 from Verizon. I am studying abroad in the summer for about 6 weeks and I am looking for the best option for my phone situation. I was planning on getting a sim card once I was in London but I have been reading some posts about this phone being region-specific about the sim cards it's compatible with. can anyone explain what I need to do to make this work? and if not, what is the best alternative?

Go to Verizon, explain that you'll be going overseas for a few weeks and you'd like the phone unlocked and region unlocked. (It may already be - Verizon has some locked phones and some unlocked phones.) For overseas travel, most carriers have been unlocking phones for a few years.

The problem is that you might not get any data faster than 2G. That's not a lock/region thing, it's a "what radios are in the phone" thing.
